Every piece of equipment powered via the single phase AC mains supply should have one of these installed.
Protects against line borne spurious voltage spikes, line noise and RF induced noise using an L-C filter and excessive current current protection using an inbuilt user changeable M205 format fuse.
I currently have two of these which have been salvaged from ex Broadcast industry equipment - you can select your preferred filter using the selection boxes on this page
1: Schurter EMI Filter with in-built fuse
Model: 5200-2-23
Made in Switzerland
Suitable for 240~250V operation, maximum through current 2A **Note that the label makes it very clear to ONLY use at these voltages not 110V
Internal components of the L-C filter are:
2x 4mH inductors
1x 47nF X2 capacitor
2x 2n2F capacitors
All metal body
Pull out "fuse drawer" which holds 2x fuses, one is active and the other a spare
Currently installed is a 160mA (Yes, very low and double checked the markings!) fast blo with the spare holder being empty
Body dimensions:
42mm deep x 28mm wide x 32.2mm high
Two mounting holes, spaced 35mm apart
Spade terminals to the rear of the filter, which were previously soldered
COSMETIC CONDITION:
CLEAN
NO damage to the body of the component at all, drawer works properly and locks securely in place
Spade terminals have seen solder in the past but could even be used with female connectors (previous solder has been sucked away!)
2: UNKNOWN EMI Filter with in-built fuse
Model: PS720/6A
Country of origin is unknown (not indicated)
Suitable for 110 ~250V operation, maximum through current 6A
Internal components of the L-C filter are:
2x 0.7mH inductors
1x 0.015uF X2 capacitor
2x 2200pF capacitors
All metal body
Pull out "fuse drawer" which holds 2x fuses, one is active and the other a spare
Currently installed is a 3.15A fast blo with the spare holder also having the same fuse rating (the spare)
Body dimensions:
41.5mm deep x 28.4mm wide x 32.5mm high
Two mounting holes, spaced 33.75mm apart
Spade terminals to the rear of the filter, which have never seen solder
COSMETIC CONDITION:
CLEAN
NO damage to the body of the component at all, drawer works properly and locks securely in place
Spade terminals have never seen solder in the past so female spade or direct soldering would work fine.
Both EMI Filters are now individually packed into clear plastic packets
