Rodd was an Australian company specialising in the craft of the silversmith. The company built up a long, distinguished reputation with particular emphasis on the production of finely crafted Silverware, Silver plate and hybrid Silver plate/Stainless Steel wares in later years. Not just cutlery either, in their early days, Rodd was very well known for some of the brooch designs they produced.
Over the years the company structure changed and in the 1960's and they hence became known as Mytton Rodd (Australia).
While we do not usually offer items on other people's behalf, however an extended family member has asked us very nicely to see if 'someone' may like to have some of their LARGE collection of both Sterling and Plate Silverware ... this is one of these items, a nice piece of Australian Silversmith history in the form of this teaspoon set or cake fork set COMPLETE with the original box, all labelling (including the metallic company logo label on the front of the box) and even the original Guarantee Certificate.
Quite frankly I was stunned at the condition of these presentation sets when these were passed to us and I just had to ask "why are these in such good condition?" Apparently these were both wedding gifts and had never seen a lick of tea or slice of cake.
My apologies to the purists of all things Silver related - I have committed the sin of CLEANING these teaspoons and cake forks (the Bi-Carb treatment), surely no-one in their right mind is going to use these (and why wouldn't you? Don't just keep them in the display cabinet!) if they were covered in a patina that so many folk seem to love - we don't think it is appropriate to use dirty looking utensils to place food or drink in your mouth!

We have intentionally limited the rating to 9.9 as (for us) 10/10 indicates brand new, straight from the store and sealed ...
CLEAN & SHINY! (Oh you shiny thing you!)
NO scratches at all - I made a close inspection of each piece and cannot see any scratching at all
NO bending!
NO oxidisation damage observed - patina, when we received them ... Yes, but a good gentle cleanup bought them back to an "as new" appearance with absolutely NO pitting observed (breakdown of the Silver plate)
Every piece has been cleaned safely. Silver can be a real pain over time, it needs a polish up from time to time and in fact RODD includes some hints on how to maintain your teaspoon set (printed on the Guarantee Certificate) Fortunately it is not difficult to properly clean Silverware (or plated Silverware) without risking your health (through the use of commercial chemicals such as Silvo) or damage to the item.
How? (I hear you ask, mouth wide open with tongue drooping to one side ... a slight dribble from one corner of the mouth!)
Get an Aluminium tray, often sold for use at BBQ's. Place your Silverware inside the tray along with Bicarb of Soda (readily available at the supermarket = Baking Soda) and add some warm/hot water. The 'trick' here is that as much of the Silverplated item should be in contact with the Aluminium dish, sometimes we have even wrapped the item in Al-foil to help the process along. The oxidisation marks will rapidly disappear (around 10 minutes should do the trick) and rub up lightly with a nice soft micro-cloth. Job done, nice and easy while being safe to handle and use with your tea or slice of Chocolate Gateau! Hmmm ... why Gateau? This is a very decadent cake which is very much at home with the cake forks!
Now that this description is complete, I have packed EVERY PIECE within a sealed clear plastic packet before returning them to the presentation box - this should significantly reduce the effects of oxidisation over time. Of course just cut away the plastic BEFORE use, otherwise you are going to have problems (life's too short not to have a joke now and then)
The outer cardboard box is also within sealed clear plastic to protect it while awaiting a new owner ...
