Rodd was an Australian company specialising in the craft of the silversmith. The company built up a long, distinguished reputation with particular emphasis on the production of finely crafted Silverware, Silver plate and hybrid Silver plate/Stainless Steel wares in later years. Not just cutlery either, in their early days, Rodd was very well known for some of the brooch designs they produced.
Over the years the company structure changed and their primary 'Grosvenor' period began in the 1960's with the new company structure of Mytton Rodd (Australia). By this time, Grosvenor was very well known for their Silverware 'canteens' (wooden cases with complete cutlery sets) which were often received as wedding presents by couples.
While we do not usually offer items on other people's behalf, an extended family member has again asked us to see if 'someone' may like this Delphic Afternoon Tea Set with includes the sugar spoon, jam spoon and knife.
This box set was not one of those "unwanted" Wedding gifts but they actually used this charming afternoon tea set and looked after it pretty well.
I do see online quite a number of folk offering just the teaspoons or the speciality spoons (sugar & jam) or the knife but not often has the complete set survived the ravages of time - this box set has, although it does have some minor "I'm getting old ya know?" marks on the box and a couple of the utensils have LIGHT useage scratches ... after 60+ years we all get such marks!

COSMETIC CONDITION:
As we do with most of our chinaware's, let's give this very nice "Tea With Scones" utensil set a personalised rating for condition and appearance ...
DTNS RATING: 9/10 (Dang! That's Nice Silverplate!)
Actually my wife was tempted to hold onto this because it has the speciality items included but as I have been entrusted with this little box of goodies in an effort to seek out a new home, we cannot hold onto it.
The following refers to EVERY LITTLE PIECE equally, if there are any comments to be made about individual items then these comments are at the end of this general description
CLEAN - it is obvious that all of these pieces have had a "rub a dub dub" with a nice soft polishing cloth - they weren't terribly oxidised anyway because the owners of these used and cared for them over the years.
NO severe scratches on any piece
NO obvious signs of plating failure (dark spots or a roughness to the plating when touched with the finger)
NO bent pieces!
SPECIAL MENTIONS ...
One teaspoon has a very small "dent" in the handle (near the end of the handle), the plating has not been damaged and it is NOT bent.
The sugar spoon bowl has a few VERY LIGHT useage marks, nothing hideous but noticeable when compared to all of the other pieces (which are basically completely unmarked)
Now that this description is complete, this teaspoon set of six with the sugar spoon, jam spoon and butter knife have been INDIVIDUALLY sealed within clear plastic and placed into position inside the box. Why do this? Because when this Silver plate is in a completely sealed packet, the oxidisation process slows down considerably - we do not want to send these to someone if they have gone that typical Yellow-Brown (or Black if it has been a really long time) due to reaction with the air.
