BACKGROUND
To many, this item might well have ended up at the local rubbish tip but I am very big on reusing or repurposing old electronic components and hardware, from the point of view of sustainability - if it still functions and a purpose can be found for the item, it seems so wasteful to toss such items in the rubbish and possibly poison our environment. Not only that but so much energy (Embedded Energy or Ee) was used converting the raw material to usable product, assembling the product, intermediary transportation, manufacturing assembly and finally out to the end user, that again we just "write off" all that energy and recreate the product once again - not so smart!
HERE is a page I have created which gives some tables and more detailed information about specific Ee values (Embodied Energy) for different materials plus a link which you can use as a starting point to investigate Ee for yourself.
This cable is interesting in that while it has the 6 coloured coded cores, additionally there is a single audio channel provided, fully shielded - not shielding the entire cable but just the audio wire.
The Black outer sheath feels almost "rubber like" and is ribbed, not a smooth finish.
This is pretty dated cable too, using jute yarn as the internal "filler" - you don't see this technique used any more!
Perfect for interconnection of communications equipment, the 6 conductors easily able to handle 500mA (each conductor) and the single shielded audio channel for the analog speech connection.
UNKNOWN MANUFACTURER - Length of 6+ single channel audio cable
Country of origin is also unknown (the comm's equipment was Australian designed and made for Federal Government security agencies, a LONG time ago)
The Black ribbed cable sheath has no ID markings on any kind on it.
Suitable for use with data or low voltage control signalling plus a single analog channel for audio.
6x multi-strand PVC insulated conductors
All conductors have individual colour coded sheaths for identification
Single tinned braid is wrapped around a 7th wire (Yellow) and this is your audio channel
Jute yarn is used as the cable "filler"
Cable outer sheath: 6.45mm OD
Cable length: 135cm (1.35 metres)
Bare wires at either end
With no printing on the sheath, I cannot give any information about temperature ratings etc ...
COSMETIC CONDITION:
USED
Clean (sheath)
NO damage to the sheath along the entire length of the cable
Inner conductors (when stripped back) are bright and clean (no water has been here!)
Now safely packed into a sealed clear plastic packet waiting to take on a new task in "life" (Spock to Captain Kirk ... "It is not life as we know or understand it")
