A partial tea setting which is a little out of the ordinary ... the Jasmine range are well known for their enduring pale Yellow, WITHOUT decoration with the exception of the distinctive ribbing.

This tea setting is just a little more elaborate than your 'stock standard' Jasmine series, featuring the usual ribbing or concentric rings, multi-coloured florall bouquets in the central area, and a floral band around the rim.

"The War" had just finished, it was time to be surrounded by brightness and all things cheerful ... unfortunately many folk would not come home from the War, this was an incredibly sad time for so many people.

It could well be that we may all need a bit of cheering up if issues in Europe and the Middle East do not calm down, it is not looking good at the moment!

Such teasets provide uplifting, enhancing "emotional well being" in times of stress and trouble, fortunately my wife still has a LOT of equally cheerful pieces and she thought that someone may like to make use of this partial tea setting, in the hope that someone else can be surrounded by bright, cheerful table wares.

WOODS WARE - Tea Setting (Various pieces which are ALL available separately)

Made in England

Circa 1950's

Design: Jasmine with multi-coloured floral bouquet decorations

All over Lemon Yellow wash

Additional to the Yellow base colouring, decorations have been applied to all pieces, in the form of an outer band and inner collection of multi-coloured flowers.

All decorative work has been undertaken by hand with artist's marks to the underside - NOT transferware

No finishing touches such as Gold gilding

Basic tea set pieces, originally part of a complete set but some pieces had "Woopsie" moments through their 80+ year lifetime and didn't last the distance.

It's interesting that the plain Yellow pieces (commonly available online and I think we used to have some as well) are quite "ageless" whereas once these decorations are placed on the pieces, they instantly look "the part" from the 1950's era

Oh, my wordy Yes ... I have also been handed the dining setting of this design and it is advertised separately right HERE (Not yet enabled ... it takes time to create these advertisements!)

This partial tea set comprises the following pieces

TEACUP(S)

I have been provided with just TWO teacups, one is in very good condition but the other has a flaw

Both teacups have simply WOOD'S ENGLAND impressions on the underside along with decorator markings

Teacup A:

NO cracks

NO chips

NO crazing observed (Wet or Dry)

NO discolouration to the base Yellow colouring

All hand decoration looks to be in very good condition with no missing sections or wear showing

Teacup B:

NO cracks ***

*** Actually there was a crack on the upper portion of the handle (where it joins the teacup body) but this has been relatively well repaired - still visible though. Interestingly, the lower section of this handle does NOT show any crack at all OR it was extremely well repaired!

NO chips

NO crazing observed (Wet or Dry)

NO discolouration to the base Yellow colouring

All hand decoration looks to be in very good condition with no missing sections or wear showing

SAUCER(S)

I have been provided with just TWO saucers, both are in very good condition.

Backstamp markings on the underside are ...

NO chips

NO crazing observed (Wet or Dry)

NO discolouration to the base Yellow colouring

All hand decoration looks to be in very good condition with no missing sections or wear showing

Nothing is perfect after 75+ years of use (take a look at Grandma!) and BOTH of these saucers have two small, NON-discoloured fleabites to the undersides.

SIDE PLATE

I have been provided with just ONE side plate, in very good condition.

Backstamp markings on the underside are ...

NO chips

NO crazing observed (Wet or Dry)

NO discolouration to the base Yellow colouring

All hand decoration looks to be in very good condition with no missing sections or wear showing

Nothing is perfect after 75+ years of use (take a look at Grandma!) and I can see three small, NON-discoloured fleabites to the underside.

CREAMER JUG

Backstamp markings on the underside are ...

NO chips

NO crazing observed (Wet or Dry)

NO discolouration to the base Yellow colouring

All hand decoration looks to be in very good condition with no missing sections or wear showing

Nothing is perfect after 75+ years and I noticed this very small Black dot right at the base of the handle (see the photograph) ... not a crack, just a dot of some kind which I could not "clean away" with soap & water so there it stays!

Overall, a nice Wood's examples from the mists of time, in fact I am surprised at the lack of crazing on any of the pieces, this seems to suggest this tea setting did not get a lot of use although the presence of the fleabites on the saucers/side plate do indicate some handling over all those years. I bet this tea setting could tell a tale or two ...
