Oh, yes ... this is older technology designed for use with 'wired' home telephone lines BUT it works just fine on the current NBN VOIP system as well. In other words if you are connected to the network for normal data transfer and your modem has a VOIP port (or two) with the service enabled, you are ready to go with this phone.

This subscriber telephone DOES work on the current NBN network, if your modem has a wired telephone port available. We do use the VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) telephone service alongside our 'normal' data services and I was easily able to check the operation of this instrument - all is good both outgoing and incoming calls, setup and answering machine functions, even the digital voice used for the default incoming message is bearable!

Let's get down to the description of this home (or perhaps a SOHO situation) telephone

UNIDEN - Subscriber Telephone Instrument With Digital Answering Machine

Country of manufacture is China

Model: FP1355

FEATURES:

  • Duplex Speakerphone: Allows for hands-free conversations.
  • One-Touch & Memory Dialing: 3 direct one-touch keys and 10 memory-dial slots for quick calling.
  • Volume Controls: Adjustable levels for the earpiece, ringer, and speakerphone.
  • Essential Keys: Dedicated flash (call waiting compatible), redial, and mute buttons
  • Large Adjustable LCD: Displays date, time, and call duration.
  • Caller ID & Call Waiting: Stores recent caller information.
  • Visual Message Waiting (VMWI): Indicator on the base alerts you to new messages
  • Digital Answering Machine: Provides up to 30 minutes of recording time.
  • Remote Access: Lets you check messages from outside the home.
  • Memo Recording: Allows you to leave voice memos for other users.
  • Slow Playback: Lets you slow down messages for easier listening

We no longer have the original hard copy User Manual but these are not difficult to find online or you can take a look//download the manual HERE

Supplied with a wall mounting bracket, this is actually how we had it installed but if you just want a standard desktop setup, the wall mount bracket is easy to remove.

The telephone comes with a power pack (standard Australian plug) which powers the answering machine and other functions. If you do not use the power pack (or the power has failed for some reason e.g a storm) then the telephone will still function but only in it's basic form AND of course, if the house has no power then you probably will not have VOIP anyway! Not like the 'old days' when telephones kept running regardless of local power failures, if the power has failed in your home then you are totally without wired communications, both data and VOIP.

I will not be supplying the 'line cable' which goes between your modem and this telephone ... the telephone line socket is a standard RJ12 type.

TESTING:

We actually used this telephone for a period of time (wall mounted) but it has now been replaced by another ... nothing wrong with this phone, we just wanted to change to another phone we have here. One thing about these phones, they are reliable and work when you want them to! Cheap Chinese knockoffs so often just don't cut it in times of need ... often at the very time you need one to work such as an emergency - Uniden has been around for a very long time and know about creating reliable home telephony equipment, we use their products for our cordless phone and also my wonderful wide band radio scanner.

First, let's power this up ...

On initial 'power up', the system suggests that the telephone needs to be setup and then guides the user through the setup steps (how many rings, contrast, date, time etc) using voice (a pleasant female voice) assistance. All worked fine here.

The LCD display is undamaged, no shadows or dark spots and all characters were displaying correctly.

Although this phone has been in use by us, I rechecked ALL of the numerical buttons plus the functions - they all checked out fine. I made an outgoing call, no dramas here

Next, I received an incoming call and this is where the phone provides not only an audible ring but visual indication of an incoming call - one of the buttons starts flashing bright RED, you cannot miss it!

Received and transmitted speech was fine, no issues here and the volume control also works well.

I reset the answering machine stored greeting message so upon receipt by the new owner it will use the default answering machine 'greeting' (female voice ... Sorry I'm not available right now ... etc)

I didn't want to spend too long on the testing and being happy that the basic functions were all working fine, ended the testing at this point.

COSMETIC CONDITION:

The Black case is completely undamaged

The Handset is completely undamaged

NO scratching of any consequence at all

Handset receiver and transmitter areas are clean and without discolouration ... In fact I have sterilised these two areas with a wipe of Iso Alcohol

The handset curly cord is in very good condition with no kinks or stretching.

The LCD screen has a tiny mark on the front protection glass but there is no effect on the display functioning at all.

The external power pack (genuine UNIDEN product) is fine, as is the long output lead (which plugs into this telephone)

Now that this telephone's stay with us is about to end, I have packed each part of the equipment (plug pack, telephone & wall bracket) into sealed clear plastic to maintain the current condition while it awaits a new owner
