BACKGROUND:

Yes, yet another nice (but quite contemporary) tea setting for the ladies afternoon! From the infamous Royal Doulton stable, a complete setting for six friends to sit down and have a good chat session on an afternoon.

Don't have six friends, that's sad but it's ok because my wife says to offer these "piece by piece" which means if you just need a replacement piece or just have a couple of close friends over, you can purchase whatever you desire. Oh, and keep in mind that as you purchase more pieces, the cost of each piece reduces considerably.

My wife is cleaning out her "overgrown" collection of mainly English chinaware because she has developed a focus on much older bone china and porcelain table wares and figurines ... these "modern" tea sets must shuffle off to new homes.

She has collected quite a bit of Royal Doulton over the years but is now "thinning out" her collection ... here we go

DLAT Rating: 9.9/10 (Darling, Look At This!)

ROYAL DOULTON - Teacup, Saucer Duo Settings (6)

Made in England (not "off-shore" as happened with some English makers during this period)

Standard English "one cup" teacup, not demitasse!

I have been instructed by the one who must be obeyed (my dear wife) to offer these piece by piece in the interests of the greatest flexibility to the buyer AND as more pieces are ordered, the price automatically reduces per piece.

Translucent (you can easily see the shadow of your fingers when any piece is held to a bright light)

Series: H5247

Pattern: Darjeeling

Darjeeling is a very well known, high quality type of tea traditionally harvested from the Himalayan foothills, there is actually a city there with the same name. The word Darjeeling actually means "Land of the thunderbolt" (a small piece of useless information but it could come in handy if everyone is sitting silently and you need to break the ice "Honey ... did you know this tea came from the Himalaya's?)

Instead of trying to describe the design, here is a closeup photograph

Gold gilding to the rims of both the teacups and saucers, with the teacups having Gold gilding applied around the foot and down both sides (not the back) of the handles

The base bone china is a brilliant, fresh White colour (not Cream(ish) in appearance)

BACKSTAMP DETAILS:

Here is a photograph of the backstamp used on these pieces ...

Note that the teacups ONLY have a Gold gilder's mark (the small dash next to ENGLAND in the first photograph, these gilder's marks on not on the saucers

COSMETIC CONDITION:

In comparative terms, these cups and saucers are just youngster's from my wife's collection which means they have not had a great deal of use. As a result, the condition is truly SUPERB ... if any flaws are noticed with a particular piece, it will be noted after this main report

USED (very infrequently)

CLEAN

NO cracks at all

NO discolouration to the bright White base colouring

NO tannin stains inside the cup(s)

NO chips to any of the cups or saucers

NO damage or wear to the decorations on any piece

NO fleabites to any piece, particularly the saucers

NO wear was observed to ANY of the Gold gilding rim decorations or the cup handles, foot area - testament to their lack of use over the last 30 years

NO crazing could be observed (Wet or Dry)

There are no flaws to specifically mention because I could not find fault with any of these pieces

NOTE: In the photographs you may see a slight Brownish colour on the side of the teacups ... that is a mirage! These are so bright and shiny that the colouring from the verandah decking reflected onto the side of the teacups - there is NO markings at all

USED Exactly as described
