BACKGROUND:
Those in the professional video industry, particularly broadcast, will instantly recognise this patch lead. Based on Belden 1505A cable, these were (and still are) to be found interconnecting video equipment, SDI in particular.
Yes, SDI is still in use after 30+ years (Serial Digital Interface) by the professional video industry although IP based standards are slowly being introduced ... a lot of money has been previously invested in the legacy SDI gear and it is not smart to simply discard it because the latest trendy technology arrives on the scene.
I used to have some SDI monitoring equipment as well but that "left the stage" some time ago, just this lonely single patch cable was found in my box of "SDI stuff"
BELDEN - RF Patch Lead
I refer to this patch lead as a "Belden" although I am really only talking about the cable used, the folks who put this professional lead together are not indicated on the lead.
Belden 1505A cable
20 AWG Solid Bare Copper Conductor
Foil + 95% Tinned Copper Braid Shield
75 Ohm impedance
Nominal loss @ 6GHz 21.1 dB/100ft
Nominal loss @ 500MHz 5.5 dB/100ft
2x BNC male connectors - centre pin is Gold plated
Connectors are professionally crimped onto the cable
I decided to leave the two "Lead Identifiers" (RED with the numeral 2 printed on them) on this lead, when you have a bunch of these patch leads, it is helpful to know which lead is which - if this is not important to you, just cut away the identifier.
COSMETIC CONDITION:
USED
CLEAN
BNC connectors both have clean shiny contact areas
NO sheath damage to the 1505A cable
NO crimping damage where the cable enters the BNC connector
This patch lead has now been placed into a sealed clear plastic packet ... waiting to feel that exhilaration of serial digital passing through it!
