BACKGROUND:

My wife has an ever decreasing collection of fine bone china and porcelain items, primarily from England. She is not wishing to keep this creamer jug any longer but it's "pedigree" is a bit mysterious.

The jug has a very "50's" appearance in the design and shape, particularly due to the eight sides (not a smooth round jug) and the scalloping on the top rim. The porcelain appears very Milky White, a sort of "soft White" and is without any decorations at all. Considering the size, the weight is lighter than a "standard" bone china jug - at first I thought this could be some of her lovely Irish Belleek wares as it feels and looks just like them.

The jug has been slip cast, the evidence for this is the very light change in colour down two sides (where the two halves of the mould joined). It is pretty obvious that some finishing has been used to reduce this join line as much as possible prior to firing but if held in the "right" light, you can just see these two lines.

The disappointing thing is that the works this jug came from is unknown as there are absolutely no markings or stamping on the underside and my wife cannot even remember where she picked it up from ... so, regarding the origins of the creamer jug, we are both clueless!

UNIDENTIFIED - Creamer Jug

Most likely made in England OR Ireland but we have no way of proving this

Circa 1950's (in our estimation based on the design primarily)

Material: Milky White Porcelain

Translucent, meaning when held to a light source, you can very easily see the shadow of your fingers through the walls of the jug

Design: very simple, no nonsense design and in fact the only interesting features are the octagonal shaping, ample handle (great for larger fingers!) and the scalloped top rim.

There has been no applied decoration or artwork at all

No finishing touches such as Gold or Platinum gilding

DIMENSIONS:

95mm height x 85mm width

Large 40mm x 25mm inside area of the handle

68mm diameter mouth

Generous spout

Weight: 170g (this is lighter than comparable Bone China jugs I have weighed here)

COSMETIC CONDITION:

Note the words "Flaw Alert!" in the title, yes this creamer jug is not perfecto but very close to it!

Clean

NO chips

NO crazing observed (wet or dry test methods)

NO discolouration or contamination "dots" in the porcelain, including on the inside base. One of the photographs shows a change of colour inside at the base but this is actually light reflecting differently from the porcelain foot underneath, in fact the base is the same Milky White as the rest of the jug.

Yes, there is a small crack that I noticed while inspecting this jug ...

Inside the mouth, right where the handle joins the main body, there is a line of discolouration running from the inside top rim down about 15mm in length. I cannot see any signs of this line on the outside in the same area. I ran my finger over this area with the mark but cannot feel any difference in the surface, very smooth, but this line is there none-the-less.

Please see one of the photographs to examine this line more closely

While this creamer jug has no markings at all, and even with that "crack", when held in the hand it just feels "different", there is definitely something "different" about this creamer jug!
