New Chelsea Porcelain Co. Ltd (established 1912) produced chinaware marked as Chelsea, New Chelsea and Royal Chelsea until approximately 1951. Known for the product high quality at reasonable prices and especially of the cessation of wartime activities, a major market for the company was North America. In 1951 the company was acquired by Susie Cooper Pottery Ltd and eventually absorbed into the Wedgwood group.

NEW CHELSEA PORCELAIN CO. LTD - Saucer and Side Plate ONLY

Either item is available individually or as a pair (if both remain available) with a discount

Made in Longton, Stoke-On-Kent England

Trade Name: Royal Chelsea

Design Name: Golden Rose

Bright White fine bone china base with Pink & Red rose bud decoration

Finished with a heavy feathered Gold gilding around the rim

Hand painted and gilded

The obvious feature of these pieces is the substantial amount of heavily applied Gold finishing. My wife believes in having chinaware that mean something and so it is with these "Golden Beauties"

Gold symbolises not only wealth but also permanence, purity (like a refined soul), achievements (marking the highest moments in one's life) and even divinity (representing the Sun and possibly sacred powers)

One thing for sure ... place these on the dining table and everyone will immediately notice them!

BACKSTAMP DETAILS:

Backstamp photograph

Artists mark can be seen just above the main backstamp mark

DIMENSIONS:

SAUCER: 141mm diameter

SIDE PLATE: 162mm diameter

COSMETIC CONDITION:

Very Good condition

NO cracks

NO wear is apparent to the decoration flower work

NO fleabite on the saucer but I can see one small fleabite to the underside of the side plate

I was expecting to see at least some handling wear to the heavily applied Gold gilding but I was surprised to find no handling or usage wear at all. I can see slight differences in the Gold texture but these are not wear marks, in fact I discovered that you can POLISH this Gold gilding (it is quite heavy and substantial) to bring up the lovely Golden Yellow - just don't get carried away in case you start to wear away the Gold!

Shame that at this stage, my wife has NOT handed me the teacup (she is still looking for it!) but perhaps someone already has the teacup or just need a plate or saucer replacement.

USED Exactly as described
