STORY TIME

Once upon a time ...

I am now retired from the professional audio industry but over the years we used to hold onto any type of microphone that we could experiment with during "down time" Going way way back to old RCA's, ribbons and even crystal microphones and so it was that we acquired this JVC MZ-707 microphone assembly for further experimentation. This microphone assembly is NOT complete, we received it because someone had damaged the shoe assembly which makes the microphone rather useless for a camcorder or field recorder. The microphone was working fine but due to the physical issues with the shoe, not suitable for use as originally intended by JVC

For this reason (the shoe damage) I am offering three distinctly separate 'sections' in this advertisement. You can select just one section, a couple or the lot but in the latter case, you will still not have a complete microphone assembly because of the damage done to the shoe.

Our interest was taken by the dual condenser element (stereo) which would have been interesting to play around with ... if we had the time in those days.

The dual PCB assembly could possibly be used to service someone's own MZ-707 where their module has failed.

Finally, the foam windscreen may come in handy for someone with a camcorder and their windscreen has gone M.I.A. - nothing worse looking than trying to film with a REAL sock stuck over the microphone, it's not a good look!

Enough said ... here are the details

JVC STEREO MICROPHONE MODULE - For SPARE PARTS Only (not complete)

Made in Japan

Model: MZ-707

Stereo condenser elements, providing stereo sound or, via the user controls on the camcorder, some modifications to the polar pattern was possible.

These MZ-707's were very popular in their day (around the mid 1990's), providing a portable stereo microphone capability to camcorders and audio field (portable) tape machines.

Here are the sections I am offering ... purchase more than one section and the overall cost drops

SECTION 1: Foam Windscreen

Black foam (funny enough)

Measures 100mm length x 48mm x 38mm (rectangular shaped)

Entry for the microphone element is also rectangular in shape, measuring 28mm x 25mm

NO damage to the foam

NO discolouration of the foam

NO crumbling foam! This happens when the foam starts to 'breakdown' but this foam remains in great condition

SECTION 2: Stereo Condenser Microphone Element

Supplied with the outer metal housing and all of the tiny screws (Philips head)

All wires are intact (all are inside the end section except for one) and wiring is just bare wire, no special connectors.

The dual microphone element is physically undamaged and has been stored in a cool area with low humidity (condensor microphones do not take kindly to high humidity especially)

SECTION 3: Dual PCB Condensor Preamps Plus Control Electronics & Knobs

Two small PCB's mounted at right angles to each other, these are designated with the part numbers J31865-002A & J31865-002B. All passive and active components are SMD type. Included on these boards are the slide switches controlling LOW CUT, SUPER DIRECT - STEREO & finally the HIGH-LOW-OFF switch. The push fit knobs for these switches are included, as are four tiny screws used if being fitted back into a MZ-707. This PCB assembly is sitting safely within a sealed ESD packet.

Each of these sections has been carefully packed within sealed clear plastic (except the PCB which is within an ESD packet) ready to bring life to another MZ-707 OR become a participant for those who like to experiment with various microphones and hear what sort of sound they produce.
