HISTORY:
Working through yet more boxes of spare parts from days of old ... unfortunately I did not record which radio receiver this meter came from but I am pretty sure it is an edge reading meter used to indicate received signal strength.
I am very much "into" sustainability and a complete piece of electronic equipment represents a LOT of embedded energy and to waste that embedded energy e.g throw away non-functional equipment, is a very bad thing, even worse is to bury it in landfill and subsequently poison our environment!
What is embedded energy?
Embedded energy is a measurement of the total energy that was used to create a component, a module or a complete piece of equipment originally.
HERE is some more information about Ee
UNKNOWN MANUFACTURER - Edge Reading Panel Meter
Country of origin is unknown, possibly Japan or Taiwan
Part # WF23 (printed in Black on the rear casing)
Edge reading (horizontal movement)
White meter pointer
No scale is marked on the meter, simply MIN & MAX
Background is a metallic Emerald Green colour
No zero adjustment facility is available externally
No facility for a backlight HOWEVER ...
On one side of the body is an "opening" and I found that when a bright light is shone inside this opening, the meter scale "comes alive!" so by using a bright White LED (doesn't need to be diffused), this meter can be made to have a backlit background.
DIMENSIONS:
Meter Body: 38.85mm Wide x 18.4mm Height x 32.1mm Deep
Clear viewing window: 34.7mm Wide x 13.8mm Height
It MAY be possible to lift off this clear viewing window but I have made no attempt - which delicate components such as this meter it is often best to leave well alone.
COSMETIC CONDITION:
USED
CLEAN
NO scratches to the viewing window
NO broken body parts
Solder tag terminations are clean and ready for use once again
TESTING:
Of course I have tested the meter, both prior to removal but also today while inspecting the meter ... the basic information is
To achieve full scale deflection required 200uA of current flow
DC resistance of the coil is 420 Ohm
Nice smooth, damped pointer movement
I have now packed this meter in a clear plastic packet, with protective bubblewrap and it now patiently awaits a new purpose in life.
