BACKGROUND:

Unlike most of the chinaware's, ceramic's and porcelain that our family is seeking new homes for, this decorative bowl is mine all mine!

It was "picked up" on one of my trips to visit the old folks back in NZ but space is now at a premium and many of our family items are "going out the door" into the big wide world, seeking new homes to live in.

Macmillon is practically a house-hold name in the world of NZ ceramic and metal arts, the whole family has an artistic "bent", some in ceramics and others, such as Michael creating amazing sculptures.

Perhaps one of the most iconic releases was the "Black backed seagull", to be bought into your home (or outside if you are willing to take the risk, these seagulls are highly prized) and cherished like a pet!

Never seen one? (My goodness, have you been living in a cave on Steward Island?)

If you don't know what that is in "Henrietta's" beak, it's a chip (a real NZ chip (NZ speak = "chup", from the term "fush and chups"), not one of those American skinny little things called french fries)

Here is a couple of links if you would like to know more about Macmillan's Pottery or Michael's own work

MACMILLAN POTTERY - Decorative Bowl

Designed, decorated and fired in NZ - specifically the Nelson area (top of the South Island)

Circa 1990's (just a rough guess, the memory is not so hot these days!)

Ribbed sides

Very nice Teal (a Greenish-Blue) dominant colouring with a much deeper Blue finish to the top rim

The thing that appealed to me most about this bowl was the colouring, that Teal colour reminds me so so much of the waters in Queen Charlotte Sound as the Cooks Strait ferry is making it's way into/out of Picton.

The glaze is of a high lustre

DIMENSIONS:

80mm (just over 3") height x 150mm (almost 6") diameter at the top rim.

Nice medium size that does not swallow up the whole shelf or table space!

BACKSTAMP:

Here is a photograph of the impressed back stamp

NO chips

NO wear n tear observed to the coloured glazing, externally or inside the bowl

NO staining or marks of any kind

NO crazing to the glaze work
