BACKGROUND
To many, this item might well have ended up at the local rubbish tip I am very big on reusing or repurposing old electronic components and hardware, from the point of view of sustainability - if it still functions and a purpose can be found for the item, it seems so wasteful to toss such items in the rubbish and possibly poison our environment. Not only that but so much energy (Embedded Energy or Ee) was used converting the raw material to usable product, assembling the product, intermediary transportation, manufacturing assembly and finally out to the end user, that again we just "write off" all that energy and recreate the product once again - not so smart!
HERE is a page I have created which gives some tables and more detailed information about specific Ee values (Embodied Energy) for different materials plus a link which you can use as a starting point to investigate Ee for yourself.
This nice multicore cable once was sitting in a broadcast studio, allowing two pieces of equipment to "converse" with each other. That equipment is now obsolete and the connectors were a custom creation so I have cut away the connectors and am offering just the cable. Not just any cable but a nice 50 conductor with full wrap Aluminium shield cable with a nice "Silicon feeling" thick outer sheath.
UNKNOWN MANUFACTURER - Length of multi-core cable
Country of origin is also unknown (the equipment was UK made)
The Cream coloured cable sheath has no markings on any kind on it.
Suitable for use with data signalling or low voltage/low current DC control signalling between two pieces of equipment or as an interface lead to the outside world e.g breakout box
50 multi-strand PVC insulated conductors
All conductors have single or dual colour sheath coding for identification
Single tinned "drain" or Ground wire runs through the entire length of the cable and is in contact with the Aluminium foil 100% wrap
I am pretty sure the conductors will be formed with a slow twist along the entire length of the cable, to reduce cross-talk between conductors.
Cable outer sheath: 11.75mm OD
Cable length: 160cm (1.6 metres)
Bare wires at either end
With no printing on the sheath, I cannot give any information about temperature ratings etc ...
COSMETIC CONDITION:
USED
Clean (sheath)
NO damage to the sheath along the entire length of the cable
Inner conductors (when stripped back) are bright and clean (no water has been here!)
Now safely packed into a sealed clear plastic packet waiting to take on a new task in life (it's like Jim, but not as we know it)
