I am cleaning up ALL the various leads, patch cables and raw cable stock that we had on hand in the workshops and this is yet another couple of leads I have taken off the leads stand. This microphone lead was a "loaner" (when artists needed a lead quickly due to some mishap with their own gear or some lo-life had stolen it at a gig!)
This lead is in the category of "economy grade", using no name XLR's and jack plugs and LEEM cable from Korea.
Fine for emergency use in a live setting, karaoke or around a home studio setting, using "acceptable" cable and reasonable but not exceptional construction methods - fine for occasional live use but it most likely would not like "rigorous treatment" in a live environment over a period of time. In a nutshell, the lead is designed to fit the needs of a budget user.
LEEM (Korea) - Microphone audio lead
Unbranded Cannon style metal female XLR plug
Unbranded Nickel metal 1/4" TS jack plug
Microphone cable sheath is marked as:
LEEM Made In Korea
Cable Sheath: 6mm OD
4.75 metres length
Actually the sheath has a "nice" feel to it, similar to a Silicon rubber material.
Both connectors are have solder terminations, the standard is OK but not brilliant - some of the exposed "Hot" signal path wiring at the jack plug is just a bit too physically close to the signal ground for my liking.
Surprisingly low capacitance measured: 40pF per foot
TESTING:
Opened up the XLR to check the connections made, which are 'sound'.
All is as expected with Pin 2 (hot) being connected to the tip of the jack plug.
Pins 1 & 3 are strapped together at the Jack plug, being signal Ground.
CONDITION:
USED
CLEAN
NO sheath damage at all
NO damage to either connector
This lead(s) have now been placed within a sealed plastic packet while it waits for another muso to make use of it.
