BACKGROUND:

Burndy (USA) have been designing and manufacturing heavy duty specialised circular connectors since the 1920's and are often found on ex Aerospace or Military equipment.

I have kept (until now) this line plug aside because from time to time I would 'acquire' specialised industrial equipment and there is nothing worse that being presented with a nice fat 'interesting looking' male socket but nothing to plug into it!

The plug is a cable 'pull' and all sockets are wired but a front section of the body looks to be missing (it appears that some type of flange has been removed manually in the past) but this does not affect the useability of the plug.

BURNDY (USA) - Multi-socket circular connector

Made in USA

Circa 1990's ~

Part # Unknown (no part numbers stamped into the body, just the manufacturer's name/logo)

Female line plug

Circular design with 3x locating-locking notches at the front

Female socket configuration: Inner circle of sockets = 6 & the outer circle of sockets = 12 plus a central hole but this has no contact point function.

All sockets look to be Gold plated

All thermo-plastic body, three sections in total (screw on)

Rear exit cable clamp (secured with two metal screws)

All sockets are 'press fit' into the holes, no soldering no crimping

EVERY socket has a wire connected (all wires are colour coded)

All "tails" are of the same length, 58mm and this means that if additional wiring is joined to these wires, the joints will just be clear of the main body (it's crowded in there), making the joining not too difficult but as stated above, the main purpose of offering this plug is so that someone can at least get electrical access to a "wonderful piece of gear" that may have been acquired but they were looking for a plug to suit an 18 pin male chassis socket.

Nothing strange about the threads, clockwise to screw on and anti-clockwise to remove.

DIMENSIONS:

As far as plugs go, this is quite large and a little heavy ...

Total assembled length 83mm

Body diameter 26.5mm

Substantial exit diameter, this plug can cope with cable up to 16mm diameter

Plug weight: 35g (most of the weight being at the front end where the metal is)

COSMETIC CONDITION:

USED

Clean

No damage to any of the sockets or the wire 'tails'

No damage to the body, any section, this is very tough plastic that has been used

Yes, it does look as though part of the front plug assembly is missing or has been removed but this will not affect the operation of the plug.

This line plug has now been packed into a sealed clear plastic packet, awaiting to have some purpose in life!

USED Exactly as described
