Rohde & Schwarz Video Noise Meter Model UPSF2

Specifically designed for the measurement of spurious modulation from the television transmitter (see the block diagram providing a typical setup)

**MODULE ONLY**

Old technology although still in use until 2002 at an Australian National Broadcast facility, but this rear panel (including the complete PSU system) could be useful for a UPSF2 restoration project

Cannibalise for parts! (see description below for parts of "note")

MODULE: Rear Panel with complete working power supply unit

Part number: various

COSMETIC CONDITION:

Clean with no damage at all EXCEPT the power on-off switch (see notes below under "testing")

TECHNICAL DETAILS:

Complete rear panel hardware EXCEPT I have removed the 75 Ohm Bridge Filter block and the comms address/interface assembly - my focus was to supply the power supply assembly only.

TESTING:

Fully functioning prior to removal, equipment now obsolete (broadcast analog video test equipment)

To be absolutely sure, I have again retested the power supply after dismantling all is fine, see test results below.

First (and only) item of note is the power on-off switch, which is a latching DPST unit. The locking does not work correctly most of the time, this means that repeated pushing of the switch is needed to make it lock in the on position. It does work except for this annoying mechanical problem.

The power supply is a high grade linear design, providing four primary outputs (-12V, +12V, +5V, +5V)

These outputs are available at the long blue socket on the regulator board.

PSU unit is split into three sections, AC stepdown to AC-DC rectifiers/filter capacitors and then to the regulator board.

ALL SECTIONS OF THE POWER SUPPLY ARE READILY REMOVEABLE FROM THE REAR PANEL if it was being used in other equipment.

Stepdown transformer is a Talema toroidal (5564 P4805) with multiple switched AC input voltage options.

Rectifier blocks are B40 C3700/2200 (5A)

Filter capacitors are Philips 2222 050 series 4700uF/40V & 10000uF/25V (very long life, low ESR high ripple current capability)

TO3 transistors (4) on the rear heat sink are BDY92's

Regulated output voltages & where they are available

(Blue output connector was my measurement point)

Pin 14 & 15 Common or Ground

Pin 2 & 3 +5V (R50 for fine adjustment)

Pin 8 & 9 +5V (R70 for fine adjustment)

Pin 20 & 21 +12V (R13 for fine adjustment)

Pin 27 & 28 -12V (R13 for fine adjustment)

The two +5V supplies have independently adjustable output voltage adjustments.

The dual 12V fine adjustment tracks across both rails - adjustment to the negative also changes the positive 12V rail

I was easily able to fine adjust all of the output rails to exactly the specified voltages - each trim pot clearly marked on the PCB and is easy to access

I am satisfied the power supply assembly is functioning exactly as it should.
