HISTORY:

Sustainability is the name of the game and this 1RU rack mounting case is perfect for repurposing, plenty of empty 'real-estate' inside and just some work needed on the front and/or rear panels to suit the new owner's needs.

IRT (Australia) - Rack Case

Material: ALL steel and 1mm thickness all round- very very strong but Oh so heavy (4Kg)!

Construction: Folded steel, two sections (base and top)

This means the front panel with the 'ears' is part of the case and cannot be changed.

Top section is slot ventilated

Base section is solid steel (no holes, no feet)

CASE DIMENSIONS:

1RU height x standard rack width x 235mm depth

Engineered so that 24 screws are used to secure the top section of the case!

The front panel has a metal (Mushroom coloured) facia panel which is REMOVEABLE, this is held in place with 6x threaded screws. By removing this facia you can fit your own customised front panel.

Rear panel does have an empty opening (there used to be an in-out portal board here) which could be left "as-is" or just fit a blank panel to suit, measuring 127mm x 30mm. There is another blank panel fitted 'next door' to this opening and that may be a useful template to work with.

Front panel Green power ON-OFF switch - I suspect this has an internal neon lamp but this looks to have failed - NO illumination when the power is ON

Let's take a look around inside ....

Multiple AC input voltage selection (110-130-220-240)

IEC AC input socket which looks to have an EMI filter built-in (I can't see it because of the heatshrink)

To the right hand side is a nice TOREMA (Australia) toroidal transformer. Of course if this transformer doesn't suit your design, it is completely removeable for substitution.

Rated 30VA

Part number: 998-FR/722

Although the transformer indicates the VA rating, no voltages are mentioned

Looks to be a standard dual secondary winding (isolated from each other) 15V AC each (see my measurements below)

Currently configured with the two windings joined on the small PCB next to the transformer, so this is an easy way of establishing the winding phases.

Test voltages measured ...

Winding 1: Black - Red measures 16.32V NO load

Winding 2: Yellow - Orange measures 16.32V NO load

Red & Orange are currently strapped together so that you can easily access 32V AC at Black & Yellow

The remaining real-estate inside is taken up by the dual, separate horizontally orientated card guide rail assemblies. If not required, these are very easy to completely remove (standard bolts)

COSMETIC CONDITION:

USED

CLEAN

NO damage at all i.e dents or deformed steel (which isn't surprising as it would take a great deal of force to damage this type of case!)

This one tough, rugged 1RU rack case and far more durable than modern flimsy Aluminium based frames (and a lot lower cost!)

USED Exactly as described
