BACKGROUND HISTORY:

A "youngster on the block", these Royal Albert shell dishes are "only" around 40 ~ 50 years old!  My wife is an avid collector of all OLD hand decorated chinaware's and at times she is given pieces that someone else feels she would like to have but this is NOT one of those pieces she desires (too young for her tastes!) After a discrete "waiting period" so as not to offend the giver of this gift, she now wants it out the door to adorn a table setting that may appreciate them more ...

If the Royal Albert long, enviable history, quality and the "look" of their older products is of primary interest then these contemporary Shell dishes probably will not satisfy you.

This "modern" Royal Albert is genuine Royal Albert (in 1972, the new parent company was Royal Doulton) product but it is questionable whether it was produced in England as Royal Doulton (the owner of the Royal Albert company since 1972) in later years moved all Royal Albert production offshore to Asia

Oh yes there is a mention of England in the backstamp but that is only a reference to the Royal Albert tradename and there is no sign of the all important missing text MADE IN ENGLAND, this dish just has ENGLAND printed

So with all that in mind, if you are an avid Royal Albert "old" collector then this probably would be of no interest to you but if however you just wanted to have the "Royal Albert" name amongst your trinkets and tableware, then this Shell dish will suit fine.

ROYAL ALBERT - Shell Dish

Country of origin: possibly NOT ENGLAND due the manufacturing transition undertaken by the parent company, Royal Doulton. Often these offshore products are referred to as "reissues"

Circa 1970's ~ 1990 but to be more specific, my wife was gifted these back in the early 1980's

Design: CELEBRATION

Fine Bright White Bone China

Highly translucent, which means if held to the light you can easily see the shadow of your fingers through the china

The transferware decoration comprises groupings of Pink, Red & White roses with foliage and is finished with a heavy Gold gilding around the scalloped, shell shaped rim.

The body of the dish is shaped to mimic a sea shell.
