New Hall Pottery Co, operations began 1899~1900 at the New Hall Works, located at Hanley, Stoke-On-Trent. The pottery works had a visit from King George V and Queen Mary in 1913, indicating that the pottery had established quite a reputation however it was primarily for toilet sets, not tea and breakfast ware at that time. The market for toilet sets was declining and the company focused on trinkets, jugs and tea/breakfast ware.

These pieces are from their breakfast ware range - we had the complete set of plates and bowls but they have now all found new homes.

DLAT RATING: 9/10 (Darling Look At This) Based on the pure simplicity of design and ease of looking "good" in any colour setting.

At the time of this advertisement we have the complete trio available but due to requests we receive from buyers, we have advertised this trio as three separate items - this provides the maximum flexibility for someone who doesn't need the complete trio.

NEW HALL POTTERY CO. (Hanley, Stoke-On-Trent) UK - Side Plate ONLY

Circa 1930 ~ 1951 (confirming by the Green backstamp used)

Opaque China (meaning you cannot see "shadows" through the china if held to the light)

Side Plate ONLY

Pattern: Unknown name or number

Shape: Square with diagonal corners

Design is a cream all over finish with a high lustre glaze. No artwork however textured (like a feathering) china around the outer edge of the plate. This texture looks so much like the famous Belleek chinaware designs from Ireland.

Gold gilding has been hand applied outer border area, not the rim.

Sophisticated simplicity is the concept here, you may even call these "plain"! It is breakfast or afternoon tea taking time after all so just an nice "calm" cup of tea was the order of the day. New Hall were not limited to this sort of concept but in fact produced a wide range of highly decorated designs, look at this vase from the same period ...
