Historic Australiana

Elischer Potteries were founded by John (Wally) Elischer, the son of John Elischer who had emigrated to Australia in 1935 and John (Snr) was a Viennese trained sculptor. The imprinted Elischer stamp on the base of the pourer indicates this was produced between 1985 and 1987. In 1987, Elischer sold the pottery and the imprints changed to National Ceramic Australia.

Elischer pottery produced a lot of "marketing pieces" for local wine makers and others. This pourer is transferware and destined for the old Barossa Valley winery, Chateau Valdara.

Chateau Valdara was founded by Herman Thumm, who emigrated to Australia in 1946. After 50 years, Herman Thumm sold the winery to McGuigan Wines.
