HISTORY:
My wife has collected quite a bit of Wedgwood over the years but does prefer "old" Wedgwood and this gravy boat with saucer does not sit well with her! I must say this must be one of the largest gravy boats I have every seen!
WEDGWOOD - Gravy Boat With Saucer
Made In England
Wedgwood pattern: PALATIA(R4700)
Translucent bone china, meaning that when held up to a strong light source you can easily see the shadow of your fingers through the china.
Very simplistic design with the body of the two pieces being White, undecorated and the addition of a Royal Blue banding with a pale Yellow-Gold coloured pattern which reminded me a little of an Egyptian theme!
Edging is all finished with Gold gilding plus in the centre of the saucer.
DIMENSIONS:
I commented above that this gravy boat is LARGE, it is probably the largest my wife has handed me to date
Length: 220mm total
Height: 70mm
Handle (which is raised above the gravy boat proper) is another 55mm above the body, again this reminded me of an Egyptian design
Mouth of the gravy boat is 70mm wide x 130mm long
Dimensions can be a bit meaningless so I have measured how much water this gravy boat will comfortably hold ... two cups. From my perspective, that is a lot of gravy!
The saucer is irregularly shaped and actually just slightly smaller than the gravy boat that sits upon it.
200mm length x 148mm wide
WEIGHT:
Gravy Boat With Saucer: 600g
BACKSTAMP:
Here is a photograph of the item(s) backstamp

A nicely kept gravy boat-saucer trio from the not-too-distant past but Oh my! so large ... great for the lover of gravy!
Funny story (to me anyway) after measuring the quantity of water this gravy boat could hold, I found it was also a nice "watering can" for the plants on the verandah!
