HISTORY:
My wife "collects" but is changing which type of china/porcelain she wants (now pre-1900's) and she has come to realise that many of our treasured items need to "leave home" to find a new, caring home to live in.
Tuscan was the trading name used by RH & SL Plant, operating out of the Tuscan Works in Longton.
Operations began in 1898 and in 1966 the company was acquired by Wedgwood and although the operations continued, they were now part of the Wedgwood Group.
Yet another outstanding fine bone china teaset from Tuscan, the pattern is named Lorraine. Quite a striking fusion of the traditional flowers with art deco style lemon Yellow and Teal graphics in a border running out towards the rim. The teacup has a spray of flowers inside the cup and both the saucer and side plate have central flower sprays in addition to the primary pattern.

Bone China
Pattern: Lorraine
All pieces have the decorator & gilder's marks near the backstamps.
Translucent, which means if held to the light you can easily see the shadow of your fingers through the china.
I have examined the decoration very closely and definitely this is hand decorated, this is supported by the artist's "mark" on the underside of each piece. Not a hybrid of brush strokes and dot painting as I have seen on many others but I can only see brush strokes on these pieces.
Gold gilding applied around the scalloped rims of the saucer and side plate and in the case of the teacup, down the back and sides of the fairly standard handle (not the upwardly arched "Queen Anne" style). The teacup also has a heavily Gold gilded "base band" around the foot.
Shapes: All pieces are pretty "traditional" with a standard 'non-flattened' sides and no china pattern to the saucer and side plate.
BACKSTAMP DETAILS:
Makers mark printed on the base of the teacup
Makers mark printed on the base of the saucer
Makers mark printed on the base of the side plate
Absolutely hand decorated, note the decorator's mark and the Gold gilder's mark on each piece
DIMENSIONS:
TEACUP: 82mm mouth x 72mm height
SAUCER: 142mm diameter
SIDE PLATE: 175mm diameter
COSMETIC CONDITION:
This first section of the condition report is universal to all three pieces, any difference or flaws are noted below this section
CLEAN
NO cracks
NO chips
NO crazing observed (both Wet & Dry)
NO discolouration or damage/wear was observed to the decorative work on any piece. No pieces have any "stains", in particular the inside of the teacup - clean as!
NO knife cuts or scratches observed in the centre of either the saucer of the side plate.
NO observable wear at all to the Gold gilding on all pieces, not even the most handled areas such as the teacup handle and the teacup & saucer rims. When I first looked at the rim gilding I thought there was wear apparent but I then noticed that as the gilder applied the Gold by hand, the flow of the Gold is not always wear it should have been, it just ever so slightly wavers off to either side of the rim edge. It is not worn, just a real human who did this very skilful work applying the gilding.
I thought to myself, so the decoration is great but I bet there are some fleabites ... I was partially correct ...
NO fleabites to the teacup or saucer although I can "see" (barely) what appears to be the tiniest of fleabites on the underside of the side plate. Running a finger over the area and it is only just detectable - this is so very small and there is no discolouration in the area.
The are no additional comments about this any individual piece
This trio is now sitting in a cabinet in the "departure lounge" (spare room) waiting to make a trip to it's new 'forever' home
