HISTORY:

My wife "collects" but is changing which type of china/porcelain she wants (now pre-1900's) and she has come to realise that many of our treasured items need to "leave home" to find a new, caring home to live in.

Tuscan was the trading name used by RH & SL Plant, operating out of the Tuscan Works in Longton.

Operations began in 1898 and in 1966 the company was acquired by Wedgwood and although the operations continued, they were now part of the Wedgwood Group.

Outstanding fine bone china teaset, background (all over, including the underside of all pieces) is a baby Pink. All over each piece is a Silver Grey Chintz leaf design, including inside the rim of the teacup. Colour is bought to each piece with the Blue flowers, mostly two flowers per grouping with the exception of the central area of the saucer and side plate which have three flowers, and all flowers have Yellow pistils.

All colouring is very much in pastel tones, lending a "softness" to the teaset, including the Silver Grey work which is not a metallic "gild" or finish.

DLAT RATING (Darling, look at this!) 9.5/10

Bone China

Pattern: the name of this pattern is unknown, but described as a soft baby Pink all over "wash" with hand decorated Silver Grey chintz leaves, including inside the rim of the teacup. Colour is bought to each piece with the pale Blue flowers, mostly there are two flowers per grouping with the exception of the central area of the saucer and side plate which have three flowers, and all flowers have Yellow pistils.

Translucent, which means if held to the light you can easily see the shadow of your fingers through the china

I have examined the decoration very closely and definitely this is hand decorated, using visible brush strokes and varying size dots in some areas to provide detail or overlaying of colours, this is supported by the artist's "mark" on the underside of each piece.

Background colour in all areas, including the undersides, is a soft baby Pink.

Gold gilding applied around the scalloped rims of the saucer and side plate and in the case of the teacup, down the back of the upturned handle (not quite a Queen Anne style) and on each side of the handle.  Two Gold gilded "rings" have been applied around the base area of the teacup.

Shapes: The teacup has four slightly "flattened" sides, which makes for easier handling. Both the saucer and side plate are round with lightly scalloped edges, to which Gold gilding has been applied.

BACKSTAMP DETAILS:

Makers mark printed on the base of the teacup (under the glaze)

Makers mark printed on the base of the saucer (under the glaze)

Makers mark printed on the base of the side plate (under the glaze)

Absolutely hand decorated, note the Silver Grey decorator's mark and the Gold gilder's markings on each piece

DIMENSIONS:

TEACUP: 87mm mouth x 74mm height

SAUCER: 140mm diameter

SIDE PLATE: 167mm diameter

COSMETIC CONDITION:

CLEAN

NO cracks

NO chips

NO crazing

NO discolouration observed to the baby Pink base colouring and the application of colour is smooth and consistent over each piece. No pieces have any "stains", in particular the inside of the teacup - clean as!

NO damage or wear is apparent to the decorative work

NO observable wear at all to the Gold gilding on all pieces, not even the most handled areas such as the teacup handle and saucer edges.

NO fleabites to any piece, in particular the saucer and side plate - nice!

The are no additional comments about this any individual piece

If Pink is your "thing", this is a very gentle soft-toned teaset ... sad to see her leave home but one day, we all need to go out into the big wide world!
