The intended location on the machine of these parts is a bit of a mystery to me

Sitting in a box of my Studer (and Otari) spare parts, I just get the distinct impressive these two items are ex Studer gear, the B67 in particular.

Try as I might, I have hunted through the manuals but cannot see these parts on the diagrams

Why Studer? They are both precision diecast and use a hex bolt for securing, the manufacturing just looks and feels so much like a Studer.

They appear to be drop door hinges, one side has an internal spring which puts the small side pin under pressure and the other piece does not have a spring and the pin is in a fixed position.

Many of the 67's that I had previously were "trolley types" with the separate meter bridge, I get this feeling these hinges were used on the meter bridge section.

Here is some history about my collected machines ...

HISTORY:

Sit down and I will tell you a true story ...

A long time ago, in the mists of time, our "Aunty" (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) were forced to offload their obselete broadcast equipment which they had been "hanging onto" as a condition of continued Government funding.

This situation created the "Golden Days" for many, including myself. If you were in the general electronics, audio or even video industry, here was an opportunity to pickup high quality equipment and their original manuals at brain numbingly low prices through auctions, Pickles had the ABC contract at the time.

While I was in the audio industry and running my business doing "all things audio except artist recordings" our work involved tape, all tape formats, and to see these absolutely beautiful machines being offered at crazy low prices was a dream come true.

Much to the surprise of my staff, I returned from one auction which a truck full of B67's (MK1's and MKII's) in various configurations, many with the STUDER NAB adapters still on the reel tables and meter bridges (from the many roll around trolley models) both in two channel and single channel layouts. Ah, those were the days!

I used a collection of machines as parts to create our dream machines for our business audio tape transfer purposes, the PR99, B67, A810/820 and I think an A807 - never did get an A80 "dream machine" unfortunately.

The "left over parts" from the various models were sent mainly back to Europe where there was a big demand for them, probably still is, so all the plug-in boards, motors, meters, headblocks etc have all long gone to other European studios for service spare parts or machine restoration.

While I would love to offer those items now, I "don't think" I have any left! I say "don't think" because I have tons of "stuff" still to be sorted through and I cannot remember what was placed in the boxes over 30 years ago!

Today, while sorting through yet more of my "audio technology museum" of bits and pieces, I did find this item from the STUDER B67

What's a B67? Look and drool!

I am offering ONLY this part as described and pictured, no other part and certainly not a complete machine (if you have already tried to lift one of these you will know why I preferred to part out the machines, weight training is required before attempting to lift one!)

Enough of the blurb, let's get down to what I am offering here ...

STUDER - Mystery Set Of Two Hinges

As explained above, I cannot remember where I removed these from (it was over 25 years ago now!)

Each component is precision diecast metal which has a cavity in the centre. At one end of each item is a pin. On one piece, the pin is pushed outwards under pressure from an internal spring, how on earth did they get that spring inside? I'm impressed ... that diecast metal is one piece, it doesn't open to two parts so getting a spring inside and keeping it there would have been difficult.

Only one piece has this spring, the other piece is of identical build but without the spring and the pin does not move, it is fixed in position.

DIMENSIONS (Each piece)

19.95mm x 10.25mm x 5mm height

WEIGHT (each item) is just 6g

There are 2x 1.8mm OD pins (diecast) on each side which hold this component in place once mounted, the single hex head bolt provides the fixing.

The pin at one end of each piece looks to be of steel and is ferrous. One pin moves, this pin has a small spring behind it and the other item pin does not move, in fact it seems to be "press fitted" into the diecast piece.

I have been unable to locate these parts on the STUDER Service Manual diagrams

Sure they could also be OTARI 5050 parts but they just don't look like it and OTARI wasn't in the habit of using hex head bolts.

COSMETIC CONDITION:

USED

Clean

NO physical damage to the body or inside either item

Each item is now packed into a sealed clear plastic packet, waiting to serve some purpose in life

SPECIAL NOTE: Yes, I am offering these at no cost - I just do not wish to "dump" them and am hoping that someone will jump up and say "Hey, I know where those go ... I need them!" The only "catch" is that I will not ship them for no cost and standard shipping costs as quoted by Australia Post will apply

HOWEVER

Keep in mind that if ordering other items at the same time, then these two items would add very little (if anything) to the cost of shipping those other items ordered, so effectively in that case, the shipping for these two items would be free ... hope that makes sense

USED Exactly as described
