Yes, another antiquity from Australian communications 50 years ago ... this type of telephone (and public phone boxes) formed the core of all telecommunications in those days - no mobile phones of any sort (not even the "in-car" phones had been released yet)
This component was made right here in Australia at the enormous sprawling facilities of STC down in Alexandria, Sydney - where all good telecommunications equipment used to be manufactured!
This is obviously just the case of the telephone, great if you have an old telephone (of the correct type) and it is looking a bit sad (discoloured, painted or cracked). Simple to remove the old case and fit this one, just two screws are involved.
While this case is not perfect (see the description below) it can still "save the day" if you have an old telephone that is need of a "spruce up" ...
STC TELEPHONE CASE ONLY
Designed for use with the type 801//802 subscriber telephones
There is also a "press out" hole to the left and right of the lower front (accessed from the rear) which was commonly used in business premises for "Recall" PABX buttons and sometimes Indicator Lights (Message Waiting if you had a more sophisticated PABX telephone system)
As an aside, typical PABX's (Private Automatic Branch Exchange) had their own quite large "walk in" room in the client's premises, none of these little boxes up on the wall! And there was no choice of which system you could use ... supply of telco equipment was not an open marketplace as it is today.
Circa 1970's
Colour: Cream
Wiring diagram is intact inside the case
Identification stamped into the case (inside)
154080 CTC-2
STC Logo
153540 3
VTC 1
COSMETIC CONDITION:
USED
Clean
NO cracks or pieces missing
Colouring remains substantially Cream, this did have a habit of changing colour due to sunlight and/or cleaning by the subscriber - this case has fared well.
Two metal inserts for the case screws are in place
Both plastic switch hook fingers are in place
A couple of "scuff marks" which simple cleaning did not remove, perhaps a more concerted "rub a dub dub" would clean these up.
This case is now stored in a clear plastic sealed packet, to maintain the current condition.
