OMG! Still more of this Silver plate household cutlery

While we do not usually offer items on other people's behalf, an extended family member has asked us to see if 'someone' may like some replacements for their own Silver plate cutlery set - we are not offering a complete cutlery set (or even the canteen wooden box!) but each piece of cutlery will be advertised separately so that anyone who is interested has the greatest flexibility in choosing the item(s) they may desire ...

If this is not the piece you may be hunting for, HERE is a link to help you find the other Silver plate cutlery we currently have or have had in the past.

UNIDENTIFIED MANUFACTURER - Butter Knife (1)

Brand name: Not indicated

Pattern: The name of this pattern is unknown, we have looked at hundreds of designs and cannot find this pattern identified with a name. We have also compared it with other patterns of Silver plated wares that our extended family member has given us but nothing matched up properly. The owner "believes" it could be Myott Rodd as that is where most of their EPNS came from but was unable to substantiate this.

On the topside of the knife, the pattern consists of two lines flowing around the edge of the stem, with "fancy scrolls" at the end of the stem. This pattern is ONLY on the topside, the underside being plain and undecorated.

Please view the photographs where I have tried to show what this pattern looks like

Apparently this butter knife was made during the 1960's period ... this was the time period of the purchase

Finish: ALL Silver plate, both the blade and the stem

Identification markings or stamps: EPNS A1 (stamped into the metal)

If you were not already aware, the EPNS signifys Electro Plate Nickel Silver and A1 is the quality of plating for that particular manufacturer, the thickness if you like. It is actually very difficult (nay, impossible) to find out exactly how thick the plating is. While the plating is "thicker", we are still talking about an extremely thin layer of Silver being deposited on top of the Nickel base metal.

DIMENSIONS - WEIGHT:

Total length: 132mm (5 1/4")

17g weight

DESIGN: Very simple, no nonsense elegant pattern topside only.

CONDITION:

As we do with most of our chinaware's, let's give this Rodd ware a personalised rating for condition and appearance

DTNS RATING: 8/10 (Dang! That's Nice Silverware!)

CLEAN

NO severe scratches, although I can see some very light 'scratch' marks on the blade. No damage to the Silver plating and no oxidisation spots!

NO bending!

Yes, this butter knife is in very "nice" condition, used at quite a few breakfasts (apparently) but still in really good condition considering the frequent use it has seen.

This butter knife has been cleaned safely. Silver can be a real pain, it needs a polish up from time to time due to the Silver reacting with the air and this shows up as a slight Yellowish look which then progresses to a Brown and finally a dark Black/Grey colour. Fortunately it is not difficult to properly clean Sterling Silver (or plated Silver wares) without risking your health ... try to stay away from the likes of "Silvo" or similar chemically based products - you wouldn't drink that stuff so why would you smear it all over your eating utensils?

How? (I hear you ask, mouth wide open with tongue dropping to one side ...)

Get an Aluminium tray, often sold for use at BBQ's. Place your Silverware inside the tray along with Bicarb of Soda (readily available at the supermarket - Baking Soda) and add some warm/hot water. The 'trick' here is that as much of the Silverplated item should be in contact with the Aluminium dish, sometimes we have even wrapped the item in Al-foil to help the process along. The oxidisation marks will rapidly disappear (around 10 minutes should do the trick) and rub up lightly with a nice soft cloth. Job done, your Silver will now have that "brand new mirror-like finish" - nice and easy while being safe to handle and eat with!

Now that this description is complete, this butter knife has been cleaned and photographs taken and I have now placed the knife into a sealed clear plastic packet to maintain the 'cleanliness' for as long as possible and prevent incidental scratching while it waits for a new home/breakfast table to adorn ...

USED Exactly as described
