Royal Standard was a trademark not the pottery works, this trademark was used by Chapmans Longton Ltd. This company was among the famous Staffordshire pottery companies, and based at Albert Works, Longton, Stoke-on-Trent.
The tradename Royal Standard was in use from 1930 onwards, previous to this it was called Standard China
DLAT Rating: 9.5/10 (Darling Look At This!)
Why such a high rating? This teaset is not pretentious and because of that, when amongst it's fancy highly decorated cousins, it actually stands out brilliantly! Think of the bride at a wedding, lovely flowing pure White dress (traditionally anyway) but she stands out in contrast to everyone else at the wedding, and so it is with this teaset trio. Pure, brilliant White bone china and no decorative artwork at all. Finished with Gold gilding
ROYAL STANDARD (Chapmans Longton Ltd) - Teacup, Saucer & Side Plate Trio
Made in England
NOTE: Each piece of this trio is available individually OR all three pieces can be purchased (if all three remain available) and an automatic discount will also be applied
Design: Minimalist! Meaning there is no decorations at all, pure White all over
Gold gilding has been applied to the scalloped rims and much more heavily all over the teacup handle and in a band near the foot of the teacup
Shape of the trio overall is pretty standard, the teacup is a standard one cup but has what I can only described as "half fluting" down the sides. The saucer also has four raised areas, almost like scoops for excess spilt tea and the side plate has nothing different about the shape at all.
Brilliant, pure White bone china base
Translucent (you can see through the china when held to a light)
Circa 1960's
Hand Gold gilded
DIMENSIONS:
TEACUP: 90mm diameter mouth x 73mm height
SAUCER: 147mm diameter
SIDE PLATE: 158mm diameter
BACKSTAMP DETAILS:
Here is a photograph of the backstamps ...

COSMETIC CONDITION:
USED
NO chips
NO cracks
NO crazing observed at all (wet & dry)
NO discolouration or marks to the pure White base bone china colouring
Gold gilding is in very good condition on the saucer and side plate ... at some points the Gold line around the rim looks a little thin but looking closely, this would appear to be the "human touch" when the gilder applied the Gold, the thickness of the line is not completely consistent around the rim.
The teacup scalloped rim and wide Gold band at the foot of the teacup are also in very good condition with no signs of handling wear BUT I did notice a small sign of handling wear on the back of the teacup handle (near the top) - this is not a terrible wear but it can be noticed when viewed closely ... see one of the photographs please.
The teacup asking price is slightly lower due to the light handle wear I have observed.
I can see and feel one small fleabite to the underside of the saucer and on the underside of the side plate is an upwards facing bump, it doesn't feel or look like a fleabite - perhaps a manufacturing defect when it left the works?
If you are looking for a trio that simply stands out from the crowd due to it's "plain Whiteness", this trio is sure to please ...
