HISTORY & BACKGROUND:
My wife just loves chinaware, porcelain etc and this includes objects relating to British Royalty. She is now more focused on "portraits" of the Royal family and she has decided that this small pill box needs to make way for another acquisition of hers recently.
Yes, this pill box is a souvenir "trinket" but this does have some special significance. My wife bought this while in England as she is a "big time" fan of Royalty, particularly Queen Elizabeth II (ER)
This pill box or trinket dish (with lid) was commissioned by Buckingham Palace for sale through the Royal Collection Trust, a registered English charity. Funds raised by selling products such as these are used by the Trust to promote care and conservation of the 'real' "Royal Collection" and also to help with the costs of exhibitions, loans to other entities etc
The painted decorative work has been undertaken by hand, this is NOT transferware. The same applies to the 22ct Gold gilder's craftspersonship.
The meanings of the various scrolls and symbolism used on this piece is fully explained in the small card that came with it.
ROYAL COLLECTION TRUST - Small Pill Box/Trinket Dish With Lid
Made in England
Design: Produced in commemoration of her majesty, Queen Elizabeth II's 60th Coronation Anniversary in 2013
The banners, Coat of Arms etc all have meanings and these are briefly explained in the small folded card that is included.
The bone china is bright White base with extensive decorative work on the lid topside, lid inside and just about everywhere on the small dish i.e inside sides and base, underneath and of course around the outside.
The small card states it is hand-decorated so I took a look with my jeweller's eyepiece and it sure is! Such fine work, especially where the Gold meets the coloured paints but you can see quite easily that a human painstakingly created the decoration and not a machine!
The original box with Gold Leaf graphics on the lid is included
DIMENSIONS:
53.6mm OD dish with a foot that extends this diameter to 59mm x 28.75mm height (excluding the lid) or 38mm height with the lid included
The lid has a slight overhang, with the outside diameter being 62mm
WEIGHT: 100g
COSMETIC CONDITION:
CLEAN
The pill box, trinket dish (call it what you will ...) the comments below apply equally to the dish AND the lid
NO cracks
NO fleabites
NO discolouration inside or underneath
NO crazing is evident, wet and dry tested
Gold gilding is in very good condition, showing no signs of handling wear.
It may seem obvious but .... NEVER EVER place this piece into a dishwasher or cook something inside with the microwave. Good God!
The small card and the original Red box
Both of these items are "like new" with no marks, no stains, no creasing
Now that my wife has said her goodbye's to this piece, I have taken charge of it and placed a small piece of bubblewrap inside the box so that the lid does not move around against the lower dish section AND the entire presentation box is now within sealed clear plastic so that the current condition is maintained.
