HISTORY:

My wife "collects" but is changing which type of china/porcelain she wants (now pre-1900's) and she has come to realise that many of our treasured items need to "leave home" to find a new, caring home to live in.

DLAT RATING: 9.5/10 (Darling Look At This!)

Dainty, delicate, very pleasing shape and 'pleasing to the eye' and of course, it's Royal Albert!

ROYAL ALBERT - Side Plate

Made In England

Circa Late 1970's

Fine Bone China

Pattern: Winsome

Hand decorated (we believe, because when you look extremely closely at the artwork, there are no patterns of dots or hashes which are usually dead giveaways pointing towards transfer-ware decoration. The decoration does appear to be solid brush strokes and although a repeating pattern of decoration, each rose/foliage has slight differences to any other)

Background colour is brilliant White

Design: These pieces are dominated by small Pink & Red rose buds contrasting with a small long stemmed Blue flower which look similar to Bluebells, all with foliage. This decoration is right around the side plate, much like a band of decoration.

Gold gilding has been applied to the edge rim only.

Translucent (you can easily see the shadow of your fingers through the china when held up to a strong light source)

The pattern is circa period 1941 ~ 1998 (based on the backstamp design, specifically the words BONE CHINA) but we know for sure this piece of Winsome dates from the late 1970's because this is when my wife acquired them!

BACKSTAMP DETAILS:

Makers mark printed on the base of the side plate (under the glaze)

DIMENSIONS:

159mm diameter

CONDITION:

CLEAN

NO cracks

NO chips

NO crazing

NO discolouration observed to the brilliant White base porcelain, particularly inside the teacup where no tannin or other staining has occurred.

NO damage or wear is apparent to the decorations

NO observable wear to the Gold gilding around the scalloped rim.

However, this side plate is not perfect because it does have two fleabites on the underside. One is located near the rim and is barely visible and even difficult to locate with 'finger rubbing" but the other fleabite near the backstamp is more visible. That said, neither fleabite has discolouration nor do they seriously detract from the visual appearance of the underside.
