Compilation of popular music in the early 1980's, released by CBS

ROCKTRIP '82 - Various Original Artists (Compilation)

CBS Records

Cat# R 001

1982

Australian release

Cover is in good condition, no personal writing, no tears, no seam splits and with light ~ medium edge wear from normal handling over the years.

New plastic inner sleeve

Vinyl is in good (minus) condition, this means that I have visually inspected the record under a white halogen light source and I can see a few very light ~ light scratches or scuff marks on either side. Just looking at the vinyl is not a great way to judge the condition, so I then played the vinyl (both sides) ENTIRELY and overall there are no significant issues with surface noise although at times I heard some low level clicks n pops on either side ... HOWEVER one track in particular was not good! Below is a "blow by blow" account of what I heard when playing this release ...

SIDE 1

Tracks 1 ~2 are OK

Track 3 (Men At Work - Be Good Johnny) a few low level "clicks"

Track 4 (ABC - Poison Arrow) a few low level "clicks"

All further tracks are good until ...

Track 9 (Charlene - I've Never Been To Me) this one is a BAD play!

Here is what happens ... opens with medium clicks, nasty! and a number of mistracks, all of this for 45 seconds from the opening of the song until ... it abruptly stops misbehaving and plays fine for the remainder of this song.

I would strongly suggest that ... in the words of Monty Python back in the '70s (relating to Australian wines), "this is a track (wine) to lay down and avoid!" If you are an avid fan of Charlene, be aware that playing this track "could" upset or damage your stylus! If she doesn't "do it" for you, avoid her at all costs (sorry Charlene, that's life)

Let's turn the vinyl over and see how Side 2 plays ...

SIDE 2

Tracks 1 ~ 6 play OK

Track 7 (Simple Minds - Promised You A Miracle) plays fine except I heard 3x clicks at an elevated level (not terrible but noticeable) around the middle of the song

Track 8 (Eurogliders - Without You) generally plays fine but a couple of noticeable SINGLE click events throughout the song (indicates there is still a little dirt in them thar grooves!)

Track 9 (the last track this side) plays OK

In general terms, Side 2 plays better than Side 1, although Side 1 really suffers because of the glitch on the last track. I looked very closely at this track and it is very hard to see the damage but it appears as though someone has lifted off the tonearm rather heavily here.

It's a bit like "Oh my God, it's Charlene - get that record off now!"
