A blast from the past!

This album is not really all about the music but what the album represents. This was a promo release from the infamous Double Jay youth radio station which was spawned under the umbrella of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. The AM radio station, Double Jay was seen in the radio broadcasting industry at the time as being a rebel, pandering to the counter-music culture and often denigrated in the industry for not being part of the conservative mainstream music industry. There is a lot more to their story and place in the Australian music broadcasting industry, if you are interested take a look HERE

Many of the artists on this compilation are very well known but when this album was put together, they were the "new breed" of music and some, well you just don't hear of Finch or Feather or Pantha these days, let alone the fabulous Radio Birdman. Many recordings are Double Jay studio born but some are live and raw, such as the AC/DC ditty (Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap) which was recorded at the Festival Of Sydney down in Haymarket, way back in 1977

Enough of the memories ... here are the details

THE BEST OF DOUBLE JAY ROCK 1540 - Long Live The Evolution

Double Jay Rock 1540 Records (Australian Broadcasting Corporation was the parent label)

Australian release

Cover is in good condition, this means that while there are no seam splits, no tears, no personal writing, the rear in particular has an overall "Browness" with a couple of liquid spill marks. The discolouration on the rear looks very similar to the pages of an old book, called foxing. This is where lower cost paper or cardboard is used and over time it reacts with the air, slowly going Brown and eventually a very dark Brown/Blackish colour - but that happens after many many years.

Vinyl is in good condition, visually inspected under a bright white halogen light source and I can see just a couple of light scratches or marks on either side. Just looking at your vinyl is not a good method to judge the condition so I then played the ENTIRE album, every single track, and there are no significant issues with surface noise (just a slightly increased level on Side 2, last track near the run out area) and no issues with clicks n pops, perhaps the most significant being Side 1 last track where there is some very low level clicks as the song finishes. This is truly an enjoyable "blast from the past" with a well loved radio station presenting many well loved Australian artists and bands of the day.
