THE KINKS - You Really Got Me (1960's Compilation)

Castle Communications

Cat# PKS 2136

1991

Mono recordings (I believe)

Dolby B encoded

Australian release

Original recordings - I believe this means Castle Communications used original tapes to put this compilation together, probably Mono and it doesn't sound as though any further "treatment" such as remastering has been used. Listen to how the boys sounded way back in the mid to late 60's, a mix of mod Rock and trippy psych rock.

Standard cassette case is in very good condition, meaning there are no cracks or pieces missing, no personal writing. Pad printed White on Clear clamshell which is plastic welded, if ever you wished to get "inside" (or relubing or whatever) you probably have Buckley's chance of doing this without destroying the clamshell!

Before playing I repacked the tape (wound fully forward then backwards to the beginning so that the tape is re-tensioned) and carefully visually inspected the clamshell, rollers and head pressure pad - no issues with the shell or tape at all.

The audio is clean and sounds great, although very much that "60's sound" meaning some of the recordings sounded (to me) a bit on the rough side and it does sound like a Mono recording not Stereo. There were no problems heard at all with "drop outs" and the program material has been played on both Side A & Side B
