INTRODUCTION:

We had/have no idea who G. MacMillan is, not that this mattered to us. We both love examples of hand decorated creations and this vase took our "fancy" quite a while ago now but it is now time for it to leave home and venture out into the big wide world ... it has been with us for around 30 years so it is time to "fly the nest"

We do not believe the artist created the porcelain vase, this was probably a "blank" onto which the artist hand created the decorations, with a high level of skill!

The primary decorative artwork has been created using brushwork (we can see the brush strokes when examined very closely) while the areas surrounding the primary decorations look to have been air-brushed onto the porcelain. This air-brush work is very light and we cannot see any signs of brushes having been used.

The vase has then been finished with a heavy Gold gilding applied to the top of the vase mouth.

PORCELAIN VASE

Hand decorated by G. MacMillan (Sydney)

Year of creation appears to be 1984

Signed by the artist on one side of the vase and the underside.

The porcelain base is White, this is definitely porcelain and not ceramic or china.

I have taken some closeup photographs of the artwork so that you may be able to see the very fine and skilful application of the paints.

The design of course comprises Pink open bloom roses along with stems

This vase is of a medium/small size. It measures 6.5" high (165mm), 3" (80mm) across and 2" front to back (50mm) with an out-folding top rim so that the mouth of the vase measures 120mm across x 65mm front to back

The vase sits nice and stable, with the empty weight being 250g

Due to the out-folding design of the vase top rim, flowers would need to be carefully arranged in a balanced arrangement otherwise the vase may fall over! My wife used to place small arrangements in this vase, nothing too large.

COSMETIC CONDITION:

NO chips

NO cracks

NO signficant staining to the inside of the vase base area

NO damage or wear observed to any of the decorative artwork

NO wear or handling damage is apparent to the top rim Gold gilding

A very pleasant example of human endeavour and creativity

USED Exactly as described
