BACKGROUND
Ex the SAMSUNG Sub Woofer Model PS-WC45T which is designed to "mate" with the sound bar model HW-C450 wirelessly, possibly other SAMSUNG sound bars but I cannot confirm this.
In our PS-WC45T Sub Woofer, it had a catastrophic failure with the switch-mode power supply, which shut down the sub-woofer completely of course.
I didn't want to mess around servicing the SMPS board inside the sub-woofer so I placed the unit on the "operating table" (my workbench) and extracted the 5" loudspeaker and this very cool module, the WSM520V.
The beauty of this module, unlike the loudspeaker, is that it can be very easily accessed and removed from the audio board inside the sub-woofer. Only two screws secure this module to the main PCB and another screw holds the actual WSM520V onto a mounting frame. Easy to remove flat cable (push fit) connects this module to the audio PCB.
So what you are looking at in the photograph is the extracted module, working fine and safely stored away waiting to have a new purpose in life!
Why would you want one of these? Two reasons, one is to replace a faulty module in another Samsung product OR purely for experimentation!
This module "talks" to the sound bar, receiving the digital information from the sound bar and then converted into audio for the loudspeaker via the tiniest Class D high power amp I have ever seen. The communication between the sound bar and the sub woofer uses the 5Ghz frequency band and the communications protocol is propriety to Samsung. This means that this module is intended to ONLY communication with SAMSUNG equipment.
This module came from the PS-WC45T Sub Woofer and it is being offered for those who may wish to try changing their own communications module, symptoms of a "bad module" are often the Blue flashing LED at the rear of the sub woofer, which will not "pair" with the sound bar = no sound from the sub woofer.
This little module is actually a pretty amazing thing and if you are interested in further information about the WSM520V module from SAMSUNG (and who wouldn't be?), take a look HERE
Just one precaution here at this point ...
If you were contemplating changing your comms module, make sure you understand how to safely work with electrical/electronic equipment! NEVER work on the sub-woofer with the AC power lead plugged in ... once the rear panel screws are removed and the electronics are out in the fresh air, ensure you work on the board using normal ESD precautions (earth mat, ground yourself etc)
There is NO soldering required, just take great care when removing or inserting the flex cable. Its actually a really easy job to change the module over.
That's enough of the background to this wireless comms module, now down to the description ...
SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS - Wireless Audio Transceiver
Country of origin: China
Type: WSM520V
Removed from the SAMSUNG PS-WC45T Sub Woofer which was talking to the HW-C450 Sound Bar. This module MAY suit use with other SAMSUNG equipment, that is up to you to determine, I can provide no recommendations or advice about compatability.
5GHz frequency operation (actually (5.725~5.825GHz)
96dB SNR
Multiple OTA audio configuration
Low, fixed latency (<20ms)
Separate RF transmit and receive RF I/O
RX diversity
USB digital audio capability
I2S digital audio capability
Complete power management
24pin I/O connector
The above information and a lot more is available via the link provided above
TESTING:
Fully operational prior to the SMPS section having a heart attack! After removal I did substitute this comms module into another sub woofer of the same model I had here, all good with the communications and digital audio transfer.
COSMETIC CONDITION:
USED
Clean
Since removal and while being rechecked, standard ESD practices were applied and now I have packed the module itself within a sealed ESD packet ready while it awaits to start work once again.
