HISTORY:
Sustainability is the name of the game! Anything (that has been tested and still functioning properly) should be repurposed creating saving in wasted Ee and reducing the poisoning our environment when items are buried in the earth at the local tip needlessly.
Never heard of Ee? It is a concept that creates a measurement of ALL things (not just electronics) that humans have made and the energy used in obtaining the raw material, processing the materials right through to a finished product and even should include the shipping of the item to the distributors/retailers.
If you would like to know more about Ee values, please take a look HERE
Saved, along with some nice old 1970's mobile communications equipment made by Philips. The radio equipment has already found a new "shack" to live in but this external loudspeaker was left over and is now looking for another transceiver to partner with! Even external loudspeakers get lonely!
PHILIPS COMMUNICATIONS - External Loudspeaker
Made in Japan (Yes, I was surprised but there you go ...)
4 Inch diameter loudspeaker inside a strong hi-impact resistant plastic case which has a metal mounting U support arm.
Flying lead from the rear of the enclosure measures 1.5m length and is terminated with a 2 pin molex style plug. It is easy to get "inside" the enclosure and rewire to suit your own equipment.
Front (internal) dust/dirt filter is fitted.
The markings on the loudspeaker don't look like a Philips type number (usually begin with ADxxx) so I have no idea where the loudspeaker was made or by whom. It's a nice solid build with a resin/paper cone. I am guessing the power handling should be up to 5 Watts audio, as this was the output from the original radio equipment.
Take a look at the photographs to get an idea of how this was all put together and the feasibility of modifying, if that was the new owners purpose.
DIMENSIONS (EXTERNAL ENCLOSURE)
110mm x 110mm x 65mm depth
Support bracket adds a further 15mm on one side and the support bracket knobs add a further 40mm total to the width of the enclosure.
WEIGHT (WITH SUPPORT BRACKET FITTED): 585g
CONDITION:
In very good condition, clean body
Clean undamaged loudspeaker cone
Movement of the cone is smooth and without "scratching" (this would indicate voice-coil misalignment)
Test audio through the speaker sounded fine, although this loudspeaker is intended for voice communications so do not expect a wide frequency range response.
To maintain the current condition of the external loudspeaker, I have now placed it into a sealed clear plastic packaging while it patiently awaits a new communications enthusiast to make use of it
