More LED's salvaged during my cleaning of the old workshop stock from my previous audio post production workshop spare parts, actually just the one, a "bright spark" amongst LED's. Closed some time ago and "retired" from the game so I am ever so slowly working through the bits and pieces that need to find new workshops to "live in"
I am very much "into" sustainability, a manufactured component (no matter how small) represents an appreciable amount of embedded energy and to waste that embedded energy is a very bad thing, even worse is to bury it in landfill and subsequently poison our environment!
What is embedded energy?
Embedded energy is a measurement of the total energy that was used to create a component, a module or a complete piece of equipment originally and should include all processes used in the manufacture of the item, from obtaining the raw materials, processing them, making the product and then shipping to another manufacturer in the "chain" or being supplied directly to stores as a finished product for retail sale.
Here is yet more of the optical spare parts I have unearthed today ... This 5mm LED is a bright one, handy if you are trying to replace an older backlit display that relied upon an incandescent lamp to allow the user to see the display digits. Of course there are many other uses but that is what we used this type of LED for a long time ago ... It was an "orphan" in a packet aside from the other bright White LED's I used to have (now sold) so I cannot confirm who made or in which country this was made.

UNIDENTIFIED MANUFACTURER - 5mm LED
Unfortunately this LED was in a plastic packet without any identification markings other than those shown in the photograph .... I have no idea where or by whom this LED was made.
Colour: Pure WHITE
Clear lens
Likely light intensity around 1800mcd
Viewing angle is not known
DIMENSIONS:
5mm diameter x 9.5mm body
Lead length is 29.5mm, one slightly shorter to indicate the cathode.
COSMETIC CONDITION:
NEW Old Stock
Clean
NO significant oxidisation to the leads
TESTING:
Because this LED was an orphan, lonely in a sealed packet, I took it out and powered it up with around 2.3V Vf and indeed I was "blinded by the light" (Manfred Manns Earth Band)
All good to go ...
