Back to cleaning up my previous audio post production workshop spare parts. Closed and "retired" from the game quite some time ago and I am ever so slowly working through the bits and pieces that need to find new workshops to "live in"
I am very much "into" sustainability, a manufactured component (no matter how small) represents an appreciable amount of embedded energy and to waste that embedded energy is a very bad thing, even worse is to bury it in landfill and subsequently poison our environment!
What is embedded energy?
Embedded energy is a measurement of the total energy that was used to create a component, a module or a complete piece of equipment originally and should include all processes used in the manufacture of the item, from obtaining the raw materials, processing them, making the product and then shipping to another manufacturer in the "chain" or being supplied directly to stores as a finished product for retail sale.
Here is another optical spare part I have unearthed today ... this LED is NEW but used once! I remember these, we had to find a suitable "looking" Blue LED for a front panel display and tried out different manufacturers/intensities to get just the look we wanted - once sorted, production began.
This Blue LED was one of those which auditioned for the job, leads preformed and a lick of solder on the leads and then, after evaluation, placed back into the original suppliers packet.
FARNELL (UK) - BLUE LED
Third party product rebadged by Farnell, no idea who the original manufacturer was.
Colour: BLUE
Clear lens
3mm body
DIMENSIONS:
3mm diameter body x 8.7mm length
The leads have NOT been cut, just preformed for PCB mounting. The leads are 27mm long
COSMETIC CONDITION:
NEW (Used one time only)
Clean
NO oxidisation to the leads
Previously soldered leads are clean and ready to go once more
TESTING:
All working fine
NOTE: my antiquated camera is not good in the colour balance area and the Blue light is dominated by White light which the camera tends to accentuate. It really is more Blue than the photograph.
This Blue LED will be supplied in the original packet
