More LED's salvaged during my cleaning of the old workshop stock from my previous audio post production workshop spare parts, actually just the one but it is not your ordinary mudane Red LED. Closed some time ago and "retired" from the game so I am ever so slowly working through the bits and pieces that need to find new workshops to "live in"
I am very much "into" sustainability, a manufactured component (no matter how small) represents an appreciable amount of embedded energy and to waste that embedded energy is a very bad thing, even worse is to bury it in landfill and subsequently poison our environment!
What is embedded energy?
Embedded energy is a measurement of the total energy that was used to create a component, a module or a complete piece of equipment originally and should include all processes used in the manufacture of the item, from obtaining the raw materials, processing them, making the product and then shipping to another manufacturer in the "chain" or being supplied directly to stores as a finished product for retail sale.
Here is yet more of the optical spare parts I have unearthed today ... This 5mm LED is a flasher, by itself, no external components required. It was an "orphan" in a packet aside from the Telefunken flashing LED's I used to have but I cannot confirm that this device is also a Telefunken.
Here is what I can tell you about these ...
UNIDENTIFIED MANUFACTURER - 5mm LED
Unfortunately these were in a plastic packet without any identification markings .... I have no idea where or by whom this LED was made.
Colour: RED
Diffused lens
Likely light intensity around 20 ~ 30mcd
Viewing angle is not known
Special feature: Automatic flashing ... apply forward voltage and it flashes at approximately 2Hz
Stored in anti-static material (Pink) as these were P-MOS devices
DIMENSIONS:
5mm diameter x 9mm body
Lead length is 27mm, one slightly shorter to indicate the cathode.
COSMETIC CONDITION:
NEW Old Stock
Clean
NO significant oxidisation to the leads
TESTING:
Because this LED was an orphan, lonely in a sealed packet, I took it out and powered it up with around 2.3V Vf and indeed she starts flashing - no issues with operation.
