Grindley Potteries based in Tunstall UK made a wide range of flower based designs (amongst many other pieces), this yet another of those designs but with the major difference in this design being the use of Gold only for the decoration, no painted colour work at all.
The dating is based on the Grey/Black sailboat ship with NO crown above and quite a plain boxed text backstamp which Grindley used during the period 1936-54
W.H GRINDLEY - Pouring Jug ONLY
Made in England
Pattern name: unknown and not indicated on or near the backstamp
Design: Medium size table pouring jug (typically used for Milk or LARGE amounts of Cream)
Hand painted artistry - the decoration has been skilfully applied by hand and finished with Gold gilding around the top rim and down the back of the handle. It appears that a Honey glaze was used, as evidenced by viewing the underside of the jug.
BACKSTAMP DETAILS:
Here is a photograph of the backstamp

CONDITION:
USED
CLEAN
NO cracks at all
NO chips
NO discolouration to the Cream base china colouring
NO crazing was observed (both dry and wet tests)
NO "old" chinaware is absolutely perfect (just like humans!) and this jug is no exception ...
The side has a couple of extremely light Grey/Black "dots" which I could not remove.
On the Gold gilding applied to the handle, the "back" of the handle has just the very slightest signs of useage wear, nothing dramatic and in fact very easy to miss completely.
I wouldn't call it a defect but the underside clearly shows the Honey glazing, compared to the rest of the jug - a Yellowish tinge but not crazed at all.
In summary, this is a wonderful example of a Grindley medium size tableware jug from this era, in amazing condition for 75+ years of age!
