BACKGROUND:

Yes, yet another radio receiver I have decided to offload as it has no practical use any longer for us.

Bought back in the 2012's (approximately) it initially saw a lot of use in our daughters bedroom but then she stopped using it! Why? The advent of Google Nest type gizmo's took her fancy much more and this DAB receiver was put to the side. There is nothing wrong with this receiver and in fact it is "like new" but it has been obsoleted somewhat by online services such as the Google system ... in her view anyway. Now I am the first to agree that our use of the Google Nest system (we have them throughout the house now) are just fantastic for music, checking the time and changing the room lights but there is a catch with these (there always is!) to have full flexibility with the Google system, we pay a monthly fee! If no fee is paid, the flexibility of the Google system is dramatically disabled.

DAB/DAB+ though is free! No fees, no internet connection is required, no hidden fees = no hidden catches (but you can't talk to it! Or at least, I should say it will not respond to your voice unlike "Hey Google")

This SONY (a great name in Professional and Consumer video and audio equipment) DAB Clock radio is a high quality but basic functionality DAB/DAB+ digital clock/timer/radio receiver with FM, no AM features at all (unless you listen to AM through a DAB station)

SONY DAB/DAB+ Clock-Timer-Digital DAB/DAB+ & FM Radio Receiver

Model: XDR-16DBP

Released to the Australian market around 2012

Power: 6V DC via a supplied SONY wall plug pack

NO battery installation is provided - fixed place use only

20 Programmable preset stations

Built in extendable whip antenna

3.5mm headphone socket to the rear

I do not have the original User Manual any longer, these are easily obtainable online (free) and quite frankly, most folk wouldn't need to use it - very simple to drive!

Basic controls with ease of use in mind, only a Station Tuning and Volume control provided (no extras such as tone controls are provided)

The overall design is all about simple functionality, no PhD required to "drive" this receiver, just turn it on and it automatically updates the clock and then choose your station and set the volume, that's it in a nutshell.

Keeping in mind that DAB/DAB+ will only work if you have this service (DAB or DAB+) in your area - essentially major Australian city suburban areas, otherwise you will need to use the FM function only.

Two line White display at the front central area, this showing the station you are listening to and the messages sent by the station, usually info such as the current song artist and title which is being played.

TESTING:

Although previously fully functional, I double checked this receiver and all is perfect - at turn ON, the clock automatically updates and it already had a LONG list of stations from previous use but I asked it to make a new search and found yet more DAB stations. Selected a dance station and the sound is "acceptable" but not brilliant, good enough for the home office or a bedroom but this is not your "boom box" type of device!

No issues with any part of the receiver at all

COSMETIC CONDITION:

USED (but barely it would seem)

Very clean

NO obvious scratching can be seen on the front panel and rear.

NO damage (from knocks etc) to the casing at all - Oh and while on the casing, that is a Wood veneer on the case NOT real timber. I would just mention this because I saw a person selling one of these claiming it is real timber, it is certainly not!

I have now safely packed away this receiver, along with the Sony wall power pack, inside a sealed clear plastic packaging while it awaits a new owner.

USED Exactly as described
