Dang! This item has been sold but take a look around for other similar items

This offering is the result of my passion for sustainability ... saving and hopefully reusing items that may at first glance appear to be "knackered"

I had a great little SMP supply until recently and then it began to play up, sure the voltages were spot on (it was a multi-voltage unit) but the outputs began drifting and the AC ripple was way too high ... not worth servicing so I looked at how this could be reused elsewhere and the result is this packet of goodies.

I have extracted the output lead from the power supply with the 2 pin female socket at the "far end" and then gathered together a bunch of various plugs that I was wondering what to do with and hey presto! this is the beginnings of a beautiful thing! Attach the lead to an existing power supply and use the plugs to cater for most consumer equipment low voltage power needs. The lead gets a new purpose in life and the plugs stop just hanging around making a nuisance of themselves ... tick tick!

Sustainability is far more than NOT burying waste material back into the earth but it is a change in thinking when it comes to items that humans create, consciously recognising the energy expended to create the item through it's various "stages" in life, beginning with the raw materials being extracted from the earth, processed, finished and then fitted into equipment - every single step used energy which is referred to as embodied energy.

To give an approximate representation of how much energy was used in the WHOLE production process of an item, I have created what I refer to as the Ee (Embodied Energy) value, measured in Mj

The Ee value is an approximation only and usually measured in Mj.

Coming up with an Ee value is an attempt to take into account the energy used for extracting and processing of the raw materials, manufacturing of the component, distribution of the component(s) and final assembly of the component. In fact the measurement of Ee can become extremely complicated and highly technical, many tertiary institutions are involved in this specialised field of science.

I have used various reliable sources online to arrive at approximate Ee values for various products and material, these are approximations and the sole purpose of this information is to raise awareness of the extraordinary amount of energy consumed in the creation of various electronic components and hardware - it may give you cause to think twice before wasting all that energy and burying it in the ground, with the possible side-effects of poisoning the environment due to leeching.

HERE is a page I have created which gives some tables and more detailed information about specific Ee values for different materials plus a link which you can use as a starting point to investigate Ee for yourself.

LOW VOLTAGE POWER LEAD PLUS AN ASSORTMENT OF PLUGS TO SUIT

The lead is 2 metres in length and was rated to carry up to 4A @ 24V at one stage in it's life

One end has bare wires, these will connect to your own power source

The other has a female socket, 2 pin, one hole is just slightly larger than the other but for the purpose of using the supplied plugs, this does not mean the plugs can only be used with a fixed polarisation - each plug will fit in either orientation I.e reversal of the DC voltage at the plug

The plugs fit nice and snuggly into the female socket, in either direction and with no "play"

This female socket has Brass receptacles

Various plugs, sizes and styles (view the photograph to get an idea, last count there were 17 plugs but you know how it is with plugs, leave them alone and they start breeding in the corner!)

Perfect for the workbench where it is so handy to have a variety of DC plugs so that you can power up whatever comes your way (low voltage only of course)

COSMETIC CONDITION:

A  mix here of NEW & Old

The lead is USED but the assorted plugs are NEW, they have been orphans for so long and now have found a family with this lead!

CLEAN

NO damage to the lead or it's socket

NO damage to any of the plugs

A Mix Of New & Old As detailed in the description
