Ex destroyed audio lead, salvaged for reuse
I am very much "into" sustainability, a manufactured component (no matter how small) represents an appreciable amount of embedded energy and to waste that embedded energy is a very bad thing, even worse is to bury it in landfill and subsequently poison our environment!
What is embedded energy?
Embedded energy is a measurement of the total energy that was used to create a component, a module or a complete piece of equipment originally and should include all processes used in the manufacture of the item, from obtaining the raw materials, processing them, making the product and then shipping to another manufacturer in the "chain" or being supplied directly to stores as a finished product for retail sale.
I kept these plugs due to the heavy duty nature of construction and an overall quality build BUT I could not find a name or logo anywhere on the plug(s)
GENERIC manufacturer
Country of manufacture is unknown
1/4" Jack Plug
Type: Unknown
Orientation: Straight
Type: Tip/Sleeve (used for "mono" single channel audio or unbalanced leads - also commonly referred to as Phone plugs)
Construction: I can see inside the main barrel body that the base metal looks to be Brass with an outer plating. Heavily knurled for easy grip-handling. The rear cable support spring is of a good length and heavy gauge.
Inside is pretty standard with a centre solder tag and the solder pad/squeeze clamp for the shield-sheath of the cable.
DIMENSIONS:
Front section of the plug is a standard shaft length, 32mm
The body is 48mm length (slightly longer than a Switchcraft 280)
The rear spring extends a further 44mm
The body is 13.2mm OD
The cable spring at the rear can accept cable up to 7mm OD
WEIGHT: 25g
COSMETIC CONDITION:
USED
CLEAN - (sterilised)
The Silver coloured finish is mostly bright and clean, some light "spotting" in the area of the knurled body finish - this area would have seen a lot of handling over the past.
I have completely sterilised and cleaned as best I can, the entire plug.
Solder termination areas have been desoldered cleanly and ready to accept new cabling
The cable clamp is open, ready for another cable.
Internal insulating sheath is in good condition
