HISTORY:
Sustainability is the name of the game! Anything (that has been tested and still functioning properly) should be repurposed creating saving in wasted Ee and reducing the poisoning our environment when items are buried in the earth at the local tip needlessly.
Never heard of Ee? It is a concept that creates a measurement of ALL things (not just electronics) that humans have made and the energy used in obtaining the raw material, processing the materials right through to a finished product and even should include the shipping of the item to the distributors/retailers.
If you would like to know more about Ee values, please take a look HERE
Well, Oh my goodness ... something Japanese jumped out of the box I was sorting through. No, it wasn't a Ninja but instead I found these very well engineered two channel panel mount jacks.
Not a sign of plastic casing anywhere and I suspect the insulation strips are made of either bakelite (less likely) or a phenolic resin material - certainly not a contemporary plastic compound.
Nickel plated (no Brass) but very well made and I am pretty sure the switch contact points are Silver plated, as are the solder tags (both tested positive to Silver content)
Well built frame, very solid and yet open for periodic cleaning or maintenance
USED Clean
Jack Socket
Dual switching
Type: unknown
Made in Japan (stamped into the body, along with L & R designations)
No company logo that I could find but the jack has an "air" of class
SOME DIMENSIONS & COMMENTS:
This socket is definitely intended for professional use.
Gauge A 1/4" 6.35mm two channel (stereo) plug suitable
Open frame
The front of the socket is threaded and fitted with a single nut, this thread is 6.5mm length
Behind the thread is a square plate, this sits against the panel and measures 14.2mm x 15.75mm height. There is a very small 'raised ring' where the thread meets the plate, this needs to be taken into account when mounting the jack on the panel.
The rear of the jack is much larger, with the contact spring leaves separated into two distinct channels.
This rear area extends 28mm deep x 27mm wide x 21mm height (including the solder tags) - this is the sort of space you need to fit the jack into your equipment.
The dual switch action is SPST, normally closed. When a plug is inserted, the channel stamped as R contacts open first, followed by the L contacts as the plug is further inserted. When open, the contacts are 3mm apart.
Just like the BPO316 series of connectors I have found new homes for, this jack has 2x screws on each side and with these you can release the switching leaves for cleaning or adjustment if need be.
Weight: 18g
COSMETIC CONDITION:
USED
At first glance I thought this was a new item but then I see a tiny dab of solder on one contact (only) and also a little dab of solder at the rear of the frame, so at some time there was a wire between one contact and the frame (signal ground)
No other contacts have see a lick of solder in their lives!
NO damage to the frame, thread, nut or contact leaves/points
I have given this jack socket a cleanup, particularly the contact points.
This jack socket is now in a sealed in a clear plastic packet
