DLAT Rating: 9/10 (Darling Look At This!)

Yes, the photograph shows a trio of this pattern ... just after taking the photograph, my wife grabbed the side plate as she needed it for a 'friend in need' ... so this advertisement is for the duo only, NOT a trio

Very traditional pattern from this period with the visually appealing touch of applying an Aqua Blue wash over the bright White china base.

COLCLOUGH (LONGTON) - Teacup & Saucer ONLY

Made in Longton, Staffordshire England

Circa 1945 ~ 1948

Trade name: Colclough

Fine bone china, very light when held in the hand.

Translucent china, meaning that when held to the light, you can see the shadow of your fingers through the chinaware

Hand decorated

Pattern name: unknown - it is not identified on either the teacup, saucer or the side plate.

Quite traditional flowers theme, two major sprays of bright colourful flowers ranging from Blue, Violet, Yellow through to the Red blooms and on the saucer, another two much smaller sprays. Setting this pattern apart is the Aqua Blue wash which has been applied to most (but not all) of the teacup external surface (not inside) and most of the topside area of the saucer with the exception of the central area.

Gold gilding has been applied INSIDE the teacup and four rings on the lower external part of the teacup with the lightly scalloped rim also being gilded.

The saucer has the normal edge rim gilding and two circles in the central area.

Based on the backstamp's, this duo teaset would have left the works just after WWII, during the period 1945 ~ 1948. The Gold gilder has left their "mark' on the underside of both pieces but no sign of the artist's markings. To be absolutely sure, I have examined the decoration very closely and can easily see the solid brush strokes not those giveaway dots that can be seen with transfer type decorations.

HERE IS THE BACKSTAMP PHOTOGRAPHS OF BOTH PIECES

TEACUP

SAUCER

DIMENSIONS:

TEACUP: 87mm mouth x 68mm height

SAUCER: 142mm diameter x 15mm depth

COSMETIC CONDITION:

This first section of the condition report is universal to both pieces, any difference or flaws are noted below this section

CLEAN

NO cracks

NO chips

NO crazing

NO fleabites

NO discolouration observed to any area of the pure White and Aqua Blue base china, particularly inside the teacup where no tannin or other staining has occurred. The Aqua Blue wash colouring is even and consistent although I do notice some little dots or splashes of colour 'here and there' where it appears the artist had a slip of the hand!

The Gold gilding would appear to be in very good condition with only the very slightest of wear around the rims but this is VERY light wear and barely noticeable.

There are no further comments specific to either piece
