HISTORY:
We are cleaning out our "overgrown" collection of English (mainly) chinaware because we have high quality chinaware coming out of our ears! Some pieces/collections we have kept but others must find new homes to accommodate our latest passion - fine, artistic 19th Century chinaware/ceramics (hand painted of course)
The company Chapmans Longton Ltd was founded in 1916
The tradename Royal Mayfair was used by the company during the period 1938 ~ 1941
This is yet another of our floral trio's looking "sad and lonely" and it is seeking a new home to live in (and to actually be used would be a very good thing too, teasers just love to "go to work" and not sit around looking pretty!)
To provide the utmost in flexibility, each piece is being offered individually (because from experience often only one piece is needed by others and not a complete set or trio) HOWEVER you can use the drop down menu on the front page and select ALL items if you wish to purchase the complete trio (and a discount is automatically applied in this case) ... assuming that someone hasn't already bought just one or two pieces beforehand.
ROYAL MAYFAIR - Side Plate/Saucer/Teacup Set (Trio offered separately)
Tradename used by Chapmans Longton Ltd
Made In England
Price indicated is for EACH PIECE, however if all three pieces are selected then an automatic discount does apply in the checkout
1938 ~ 1941 period
Bone China
Pattern: the name of this pattern is unknown but the pattern code is M6091 (hand written on the underside of the teacup only)
The saucer, side plate and teacup are quite a standard shape, including the teacup handle.
Pure White base china with Pink roses floral decoration comprising large Pink/Red rose buds, some open and others buds, with foliage. These are definitely handpainted decorations (I have looked closely and the artist marks are on the underside of each piece). Gold gilding has been applied to the rims of each piece, a single ring around the foot of the teacup and down the back of the handle only, sensible when you consider that the most often worn part of the teacup is the handle due to handling.
Coarse scalloping to all of the rims, which are finished in Gold.
Translucent, meaning if any of the pieces are held up to a strong light source you can easily see the shadows of your fingers through the china
COSMETIC CONDITION:
This first section of the condition report is universal to all three pieces, any difference or flaws are below this section
NO cracks
NO chips
NO crazing (amazing after all these years) to any piece
NO fleabites on the teacup or saucer
NO wear showing to the Gold gilding, not even the teacup handle.
NO staining of any kind inside the teacup
NO discolouration observed to the base china, nor the decorative patterning, particularly the central area of the saucer and side plate, these areas being susceptible to scratching, knife cuts etc ...
Yes, the side plate does have two very small non-discoloured flea bites to the underside.
There are no further specific comments to make about any pieces, this WWII period trio is in truly exceptional condition.
