BACKGROUND:

While I am not really "into" the mechanical side of vehicles (as evidenced by the Mercedes 202 sitting in the driveway STILL waiting for restoration!) other members of the family were into restoration, showing and twerking the performance of these classic cars, some years ago. They were big time into vintage or classic British (with a focus on AH Sprites) and Japanese cars (I have some Mitsubishi Starion workshop manuals somewhere as well, I am still to find them) ... this technical book by the guru David Vizard is for those who love their British Leyland A-Series engines which began production way back in the 1950's and were used in a multitude of different vehicles over the years, such as the Mini, Morris Minor 1000, MG Midget, Austin/Morris 1100 & 1300, Metro, Maestro, Montego and even the MG Metro Turbo.

The book was purchased locally here in Sydney, one owner - our family!

TUNING BL'S A-SERIES ENGINE

By David Vizard

Published by Haynes Publishing (those who are into the world of Automobile servicing will be very familiar with this company)

2nd Edition 1989 (Revised & updated from the original 1985 release)

This is not a "Oh look at that nice shiny old car" type of book, it is for the mechanic who loves to work on these engines, loaded with technical information, diagrams and component photographs and the reader will surely pick up a few tips and pointers to having a sweet running A-Series engine.

I have taken a photograph or two of the contents pages so you can get an idea of just what areas this book covers.

Hard cover with book jacket

Around 500 pages packed with information

NO personal writing with the only "add-on's" in the book being a pencilled, original price ($59.95 way back in the early 90's when this was purchased by us, BIG money in those days 30+ years ago!) and the sellers business details (Historical Books)

ISBN 0-85429-732-4

COSMETIC CONDITION:

You may initially think, "Oh it's a mechanics reference and is going to be dirty, oily and in poor shape"

Not so ... the "mechanic" in the family looked after his books very carefully and this one is no exception.

Clean - front & rear book jacket and all internal pages

NO handwritten notes of any kind

NO torn or missing pages!

NO obvious signs of "foxing" i.e the paper used has not degraded with time and remains a Creamy White colouring. Paper suffering from foxing tend to start going Brown and eventually end up as a rather Chocolate Brown looking piece of paper. The pages in this book are nothing like that, very easy to read.

The top of the book jacket (front section) has just slight edge curling from handling but (in my opinion) this is certainly of no great concern.

To preserve the current very good condition, I have now placed the book within a sealed cellowrap packaging (cellowrap will not react with the paper) and it now patiently waits to assist someone else to bring their A-Series engine to peak performance.
