This component has been extracted from an obsolete (no longer has a useful purpose in life) W & G DLM-1 Data Test Equipment
The DLM-1 is very typical German professional equipment, engineered beautifully and it uses top class components, high spec and designed/built for reliable operation but alas, there is no market for this equipment (analog fixed frequency 1Khz & 2Khz data send/receive test meter) so I have salvaged what I feel may be components of interest/use for a restoration project or home-brewer.
W&G produced some great audio analysis equipment but the DLM-1 really has no real use in the days of digital communication systems.
W & G (Germany) - Front Panel Dual Test Sockets
Presumably manufactured in Germany but surprisingly, no branding or even an indication of the component part number on this dual socket
The socket assembly is well designed and assembled but no name? I would have expected something like Hirschmann but zilch, nada zero markings.
Designed for use with standard banana plugs
NO hard wiring facility (the central banana socket shaft is not exposed so no hole for wiring), just the fully insulated banana sockets
All contact areas are Silver plated
Upper and lower bolts (very small diameter) are Brass, as is the socket for these bolts. One bolt secures the double banana socket to the panel and the other bolt holds the assembly together - getting "inside" to clean the contact areas is easy, this is important because Silver oxidises over time and goes a Yellow and then Brown over time, however it does provide excellent conductivity.
An interesting little feature ... at the rear of the assembly, the body has two slots so that test access to the banana sockets is easy when working inside the equipment this is installed in - an extra access point for test & measurement while servicing the equipment.
Standard solder tag terminations.
SOME DIMENSIONS:
Main body is 28.25mm wide x 19.75mm height x 8.2mm deep
The Brass bolt holds this body flush against the underside of the panel, the two top sections of the banana sockets which protrude above the front panel are 6.75mm height
The distance between the two sockets is 17.6mm (centre to centre) with the securing Brass bolt sitting exactly mid-way between them. The bolt has a very small head, measuring just 3.5mm diameter.
COSMETIC CONDITION:
USED
Clean
Nice bright Silver, I gave the contact areas a clean up and at the same time confirmed it is indeed Silver plating.
NO damage to the body or the contact "shafts" of the sockets
Solder tags are relatively clean ... note, I felt this plastic was a little sensitive to heat (a couple of melt spots near the solder tags) so it is important to use your soldering iron with care - don't overcook the terminal!
These dual banana sockets have now been packed individually into sealed, clear plastic packets awaiting a new purpose in life!
