HISTORY & BACKGROUND TO THIS OFFER:

Purchased in the 1970's from one of those 'legendary' little second hand shops out in a country town, the artwork has an unknown 'heritage'

For us though, it is all about the art and although it would be nice to know who created the artwork, we don't view our collection as investment pieces but sources of pleasure to the eyes which invoke memories of our big, beautiful country (and sometimes my country of birth, NZ)

There is no artist signature and we strongly suspect the frame was not originally used with the artwork, we originally received the paintings just sitting within the frame and taped at the rear with cellotape! It is even possible that the artwork was originally larger and has been cut down to fit these frames, this may explain why a signature doesn't exist and also the art is painted 'edge to edge' ... more details about this further in my description.

Obviously art is all about the eye and both of these paintings grabbed our attention immediately, quite 'Pro Hart' looking in techniques used to create this art and the colouring is quite simply stunning.

This is original art, not a print, and would appear to be based on the use of Acrylic paints using a board base.

This art is small, this means you do not need a large wall space to properly display them.

SPECIAL NOTE:

We have two of these artworks and two frames (identical style of frames) and this advertisement makes available either artwork or both AND the frames, if wanted as the new owner may already have a frame they would prefer to use.

The frames both have an asking price of 1c each i.e A$0.01 each - my website option would not allow me to enter zero (more coding required!)

If someone wishes to purchase the artwork WITH  a frame, I will not put these together for you ... it is up to the buyer to sort out the fixing of the artwork within the frame and sealing the rear with art paper wet tape.

After that lengthy introduction, let's get down to describing the artwork(s) and the frames

AUSTRALIAN LANDSCAPE ARTWORK(S)

Two artworks, these being available separately or you can purchase both (if still available)

Two frames to suit (?), these are also advertised separate from each other as the condition is different between the two - both are offered free.

ARTWORK: BUSH SCENE

Oh yes, our sunburnt country indeed. No water to be seen and dry as a bone, in fact the central area appears to be a slight hollow or old creek bed that has not seen water in a very long time.

Looking very closely at the artwork, central area near the tree branch lying on the ground, I can see a couple of light scratches in the artwork. Colours are vibrant and the painting technique quite special, this should be viewed from a reasonable distance due to the texture of the painting.

ARTWORK: BUSH CREEK

Quite different to the Bush Scene, this artwork brings the viewers focus onto the water, the creek. We guess it must be quite deep due to the dominance of the Blues but the water is moving slightly (or the wind is blowing) as we can see ripples on the water. This artwork is much "darker" than the Bush Scene, perhaps painted early morning or late afternoon.

Both of the scenes depicted are all about the colour, the contrasts between the land, the trees and the water. The only slight downside (for us) is the BUSH SCENE artwork which has a stand of quite symmetrical gums all in a row, to us they just look a bit "artificial" - the bush is generally much more random than that.

We have walked through a lot of Australian bush and believe these trees, particularly in the BUSH CREEK scene, to be Red River Gums. Here is a photograph from our travel archives showing these trees in "real life"

Both pieces of art have been painted directly onto a "standard" board which has been primed with a Creamy colour. I don't know where the artist did this work but the primer base colouring has little dots and even hairs (!) underneath the primer - it must have been dusty or the wind was blowing at the time.

While we are not art experts by any means, we believe the art was created using "dry brush" techniques, with the bush strokes being quite visible while at the same time the tree foliage is "soft" looking, reminded us of both some of the techniques used by Pro Hart and also another favourite artist of ours, Robert Taylor (Tasmania). This is why viewing of the artwork from a reasonable distance is most rewarding, the art tends to look more like a photograph when viewed in this way.

DIMENSIONS:

Each artwork (on board) is identical in size

205mm Wide x 155mm Height x 5mm thick board

Each frame is identical in size

280mm x 230mm

Stapled hanging nylon cord on each

Hanging weight (in the frame): 450g

Please don't forget, we have separated the artwork(s) from the frame(s), this gives the new owners maximum flexibility - either fit into one of the original frames OR fit into a frame more suited to the new owner. In either case you will need some "proper" artist tape, either the wet type or sticky non-acidic type.

COSMETIC CONDITION

ARTWORK

Both artworks are in very good condition

NO paint flaking

NO "missing" paint

NO paint cracking

Yes, you can see some little dots or bits of hair (!) UNDER the primer and on the Bush Scene, there is the scratch I mention above - not terrible but it is noticeable.

FRAMES

One frame is great, we have called this FRAME #1

The other frame is "not so great" and we have called this FRAME #2

Great means that the frame has no substantial decoration damage, all of the Gold (and there is a lot of it) is basically intact

Not so great means that some of the Gold decoration has flaked off, make the Gold look a bit on the patchy side. Still perfectly useable but visually hmmmm ....

To select the artwork that appeals to you, just use the little selection box on this page - add a frame if you want (the frames are one cent each to purchase but if you select only the frame(s) with no artwork, the shipping costs still apply)
