BACKGROUND:
While my wife collected a few of the well known Sadler teapots, this one was purchased for it's amusement value, not because of the maker or decorative skill.
You see, there was a time when "Monkey" was part of my entertainment world and my wife felt that this "Pigsy Teapot" fitted the bill just perfectly.
Who was Pigsy? He was the character played by Toshiyuki Nishida, the first Pigsy. Unfortunately he passed away just two years ago (2024)

Here is a nice video memorial to Pigsy
I do have a collector's 16x DVD box set on offer as well HERE
The company label (paper) on the underside of this teapot, identifies the seller as P & J Melbourne Australia.

My wife does not believe this teapot was made in Australia though ... that said, P & J Pottery (same company?) does specialise in teapots, lots of very interesting (and expensive) teapots which ARE made here in Australia ... however my wife believes this particular teapot was imported either completely finished or as a "blank" which was subsequently decorated here in Australia - she doesn't know which.
Take a look HERE to see the type of teapots P & J Pottery design and throw
In my opinion, this teapot was never made with the television show "Monkey" in mind but for me, it worked!
So, let's come down to Earth and describe the teapot in detail ...
P & J (Melbourne Australia) - Themed Teapot
Made in ??? (see my thoughts and those of my wife above)
Pig Teapot - affectionately referred to by myself as "The Pigsy Teapot"
Circa 1980's - my wife acquired this teapot in the late 80's or at least that is to the best of her recollection (age does that to you!)
Medium size: 130mm (5") diameter x 190mm (7.5") height
Hand decorated - it can easily be seen that the artist has used a brush to create these decorations. I must say that the skill of the decorator (artist) is high, a very well done piece of artwork on the teapot.
Lid has a "tab" lock but the head is still free to rotate through 360 - this provides the potential for interesting viewing ... see the photographs to understand what I mean
IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED THAT YOU USE THIS TEAPOT FOR A CUPPA ... We feel it was created for decorative purposes only
COSMETIC CONDITION:
In a nutshell ... superb!
This teapot has only been in my office cabinet, as a bit of a talking point ... my wife didn't want this teapot amongst her "Sadlers"
NO cracks
NO chips
NO damage to the decorative work at all
NO discolouration both outside and inside the ceramic teapot
Time rolls on and at my stage of life it has become apparent that many of my past momento's need to find new homes (mainly electronic bits and pieces) but also pieces that are a bit "out there" also need to find new caring, appreciative homes ... help save the Pigsy!
